Chemo & radiation treatments are all done!!!!!!!!! I feel fine, just a little weak from not eating much the past couple months. I still have to return to Cleveland each of the next couple weeks for blood and toxicity tests and then in 3 months for blood and scans that hopefully say I'm cancer free. It's so nice to be home.

Happy Birthday DTT - 40th Anniversary!

Such an incredible album. Ridiculous that the jerks at Rolling Stone magazine only rank it 315th. In the video, TP does a nice partial version of Louisiana Rain as an acoustic song. We discussed previously which songs worked well as acoustic versions and which worked better in their original forms. But Louisiana Rain is one that was rarely performed live, and might have sounded nice in acoustic form. I don't think TP ever performed the full song that way, unless I'm forgetting a performance of the song at the Bridge School benefit (which is possible).

  13. So, it's become that time, that year.. Time to celebrate 40 years of Damn The Torpedoes. https://www.theringer.com/music/2019/10/18/20920217/tom-petty-heartbreakers-damn-the-torpedos-40-years-old http://1001-songs.blogspot.com/2019/10/revel-in-your-abandon.html Now may be a good time to revisit this one: Or perhaps just this one..

Stan Lynch played with Cheap Trick Tonight!

That's so cool. I hope someone took a video and will upload it to YouTube. I assume that the "Surrender" they played was Cheap Trick's "Surrender" not TPATH's "Surrender". Interestingly, both "Surrenders" seem to have been written at about the same time. TPATH's was probably the first to be performed live, but Cheap Trick's was the first to be officially released.
  15. So bummed I missed this show tonight, as I live right down the street from the venue in St Augustine.. I noticed Daxx Neilsen posted pics of him and Stan hanging out before the show.. I had a hunch that Stan might play a tune with Cheap Trick, and sure enough I just found a clip of Stan playing Surrender on instagram! I'm sure there will be some better footage popping up soon.. Totally kicking myself for not going as I never had a chance to see Stan play with the Heartbreakers.
  16. This link says February also: https://1063thefox.com/classic-rock-news/expanded-version-of-conversations-with-tom-petty-coming-in-february/ I'm not sure if I will get this; I have the original and wonder how "expanded" it's going to be. I think one reason for the new edition is that the old edition was out of print, and yet due to continued interest in TP there were people paying something like $200 for a used copy of the original book. So they may think that it's worth printing and decided to "expand" it to get existing owners to buy it again. I had assumed that the "conversations" were a complete transcript of everything they talked about (at least everything relevant to TP's music/band/life) so how could they "expand" this? Did Zollo and TP have more interviews/conversations after 2005, which have gone unmentioned and unpublished until now?
  17. ^ Here's hoping he will autograph your Kindle!
  18. Amazon was still showing the wrong date as of a couple of days ago but Paul Zollo posted on the Tom Petty Nation FB page a month or two back that the book was unfortunately going to be delayed as you mention above. I'm looking forward to the expanded edition, I pre-ordered a copy when it was announced sometime late last year and I'm really curious if my Kindle will get updated for free or not. Paul did mention he planned to do some kind of nation wide book tour when it comes out to do readings and signings but no idea how extensive a tour it will be....
  19. Was originally showing a release date of October 31, but now is showing as Feb. 13, 2020. https://www.bookdepository.com/Conversations-with-Tom-Petty-Expanded-Edition-Paul-Zollo/9781787601628

    You forgot Luke Wilson

    The firing of Stan Lynch

Yes, I was referring to her name on the show. She'll always be Teresa Lisbon for me. She had a new show this season called "The Fix" which I liked too. Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled programming......

bummer. Are you talking about Owen Wilson's GF? That is Robin Tunney unless you are referring to her character name on the show. She is fetching in the video and I loved her in the Craft!

That video had 2 things - a great song, and Teresa Lisbon from "The Mentalist". Had a thing for her.
  24. In my view the Highway Companion album was a bit of a botched release. I feel that Home and Around the Roses, which were part of a "Special Edition" re-release about 10 months after the original album, should have been part of the original. Furthermore I feel that the track sequences of both the original and special edition releases don't serve the songs very well. But there are some very good songs here, and there's a general theme in the album, not always adhered to but present at least in "feel" and sometimes more directly in the lyrics. The challenge is to use all 14 songs from the special edition (not using the demos) in a new track order that "flows" well, and perhaps tells or suggests a story, as befitting of a theme album. MJ2LD has noted that the Hypnotic Eye album is very well sequenced in that it is paced well, flows well. Highway Companion on the other hand, is more of a jumble that seems to jump around in style without the usual deep thought that TP typically put into his track sequencing, particularly when the 2 extra "SE" songs are tacked on rather than integrated into the original album. I have given a lot of thought to this, and I have made my own new sequence which I think works reasonably well with the 14 songs. But I'd like to see what other Petty/Heartbreakers fans can do with the 14 tracks in a resequencing. Here they are in alphabetical order for reference, I used alphabetical to avoid the influence of the original track order, though of course you can look at that sequence for inspiration/improvement if you wish. Ankle Deep Around the Roses Big Weekend Damaged by Love Down South Flirting with Time Home Jack Night Driver Saving Grace Square One The Golden Rose This Old Town Turn This Car Around Again note that the above are merely the 14 songs in alphabetical order. I do not think that the above would necessarily make a good track order for the album. I'll add my own sequence after a while, but I'd like to see what others can do first. Feel free to take your time on this, but I hope there will be some entries by the end of next weekend (which might or might not be a "big weekend"). I doubt we'll have voting and there's no prize for this, though we can comment on which sequences we feel have done good service to the songs, and why we feel that way.
