I use to help my Grandma & Great-Grandma can fruits when I was a kid. I have never done it since then.

My mom and dad canned veggies when I was growing up but I, personally, have not. My In-Laws do every year.

I remember my mom canned a little growing up. I never participated though and I couldn't be bothered now.

I made applesauce and jam years ago in Oregon when I lived there. We were pretty poor and they had an orchard nearby that let my friend and I pick up all the fallen apples for free. They also had blackberry bushes that grew wild there and we would pick them all the time. Lots of blueberries too. I would freeze bags of them. My kids still remember that.

My grandmother preserved. My mother doesn't and nobody has taught me how to do it, so I can't can, either preserve.

YES! I love it. When I was kid we did tomotoes and applesauce in the glass Ball jars. And always froze lots of stuff, too. Now I still go picking (there are wonderful farms where you can pick your own stuff in South/Central NJ) and I use a Food Saver vacuum sealer to freeze things. I have tomotoes, peppers, green beans in my freezer right now. Farm season is NOT over yet - I think I may go to the farms next wekend.

My mom and mother n law used to can, but I haven't done it yet. I'm planning on doing it next year tho, we will have a huge garden then. We also have fruit trees here of apples and peaches, but they didn't do too good this year so looking forward to next year.

I've never canned, but I do freeze some vegetables. (I'm counting tomatoes as a vegetable even though it's a fruit.)

I don't can but I dry Roma tomatoes, cook the juice into sauce and freeze it. I also freeze cherries, blackberries and chopped onions....very convenient to use all winter in chilis, soups, etc.
