Refugee 7 Report post Posted August 9, 2010 Story by Phil Gallo SoundSpike Editor at Large John Mellencamp will open his next tour Oct. 29 with a hometown gig in Bloomington, IN, before spending November playing throughout the Midwest. His next album, "No Better Than This," will be released Aug. 17 by Rounder Records. He announced today (8/9) the first month of dates for the tour, which will continue into the spring. Mellencamp will be playing theaters on this tour, performing songs from throughout his career with his band of guitarists Michael Wanchic and Andy York, violinist Miriam Sturm, bassist John Gunnell, drummer Dane Clark and Troye Kinnett on accordion and keyboards. For "No Better Than This," Mellencamp enlisted T Bone Burnett as producer, and they recorded in three historic locations: Savannah, GA's First African Baptist Church; Sun Studio in Memphis, TN, and Room 414 of San Antonio, TX's Gunter Hotel, where Robert Johnson recorded in 1936. The sessions were recorded on a 55-year-old tape recorder using just one vintage microphone. The "opening act" for the tour is Kurt Markus' documentary film "It's About You," which was shot during Mellencamp's tour last year with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson. DCAHNM 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2010 I never thought I would say this, but I actually like John Mellencamp. Sounds like it would be a good show, too bad it's out of my area.
