Refugee 7 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 Since I think most of us have a copy of MOJO by now, let's discuss the songs. Let's start today off with Don't Pull Me Over - your thoughts? Don't Pull Me Over Composer Tom Petty Don't pull me over mister policeman Don't pull me over mister policeman What I’ve got to do won’t hurt anyone Where I’ve got to go won’t hurt anyone Don’t pull me over I’ve got mouths to feed Don’t pull me over They depend on me What I’ve got to say won’t hurt anyone What I’ve got to do won’t hurt anyone When the moonlight turns to blue light Makes me so afraid So let me go Leave me ‘lone ‘til I’m home and safe Don’t pull me over let me pass on by Don’t pull me over Should be legalized Don’t pull me over mister policeman Don’t pull me over mister policeman Please, please mister policeman Please, please mister policeman
NightDriver 208 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 I still don't know about this song...it's...different. Steve does a real good job on this one. I like the overall sound of it (the overdubs do their work), I like the groove. What I don't care about are the lyrics and the bridge. The bridge sounds strained somehow, it doesn't seem to fit into the otherwise completely relaxed mood of the song. Then again, I never skip it...so I must like it to some extent. Probably because it doesn't sound like anything else Tom and the Heartbreakers have done...
Wildflower15 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 I like it. Saw it live at the Gorge and it sounded pretty darn good to me. I think it's catchy.
Sugar 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 I am not a Reggae type music fan, but when Tom and the boys do it I like it. It gets me singing along right with them. I like Mike and Ben's playing, they stand out to me.
weird monkey 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 I don't skip it, but it's my least favorite. It is simply a little too well crafted and sounds artificial to me. The same feeling other people have for 'No Reason to Cry'.
DCAHNM 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 I love this song! Instant favorite for me. It's still my #1 from MOJO. My 7- and 4-year olds sing it with me all the time.
Amber 70 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 I like the music. I am not crazy about the lyrics. I do not skip it since I like the sound since it is very different from the other songs on the album. Although I do agree with the sentiment that they should legalize the stuff. Probably not a good idea to promote driving under the influence though. I am sure it was meant to be a cute little song that maintains an image and not a political statement.

Maybe it's just about all the things that go through your head when you see a cop car in your rearview mirror - whether you've had a toke, a drink, or are just pushing the speed limit. "But officer...."
Marion 1,411 Report post Posted July 17, 2010 I think it's groovy.
MJ§LastDance 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2010 (edited) It's my favorite. Goregous song! :049: Just love it and could listen to it again and again and again... I like Reggae and to hear it from TP&TH is just so cool. Although I didn't think about it before, I hoped they would do this some day. When I heard there is going to be a Reggae song on the album, I hoped it would head for "Johnny Be Goode" by Peter Tosh, which also has a lot of guitar parts in it and that piano thing again and again. I hoped Tom would be inspired by that song and it could be that he was as you can find incredible guitar parts and the piano in "Don't Pull Me" as well. I think Tom also played "Johnny Be Goode" on his Buried Treasure show, so he seems to like it. Still this is something completely different I've never heard before. What I also love so much about it is that it has that echo, which makes it dreamy and puts you in a wonderful place. It's definately one of my favorite songs ever of TP&TH. Oh and LYRICS ARE ALRIGHT. fandlinvegas 1 Report post Posted July 19, 2010 For some reason I can't get into the album version. It was awesome live...I don't skip it on the album...but not my favorite.
Sarah.Jo 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2010 I agree with MJ completely, one of my favourite TP&TH songs ever; I love this song to death. It sounds completely different than any of their other songs, it's got such a trance-y sound to it. NO ONE DOES REGGAE LIKE TOM!! The lyrics are cute too, at least with the way Tom sings it, he sounds a bit as if he's really pleading with 'him'.
Magnolia 171 Report post Posted July 27, 2010 I love this one, too. Always makes me smile when Tom sings "should be lee-go-lized".
