Fancy a sandwich in a can?

US inventors have come up with the ultimate in lunchtime convenience food for the busy consumer - a sandwich in a can.

The aptly named Candwich is the latest food craze to hit the US and comes in three flavours - peanut butter and strawberry jam, peanut butter and grape jam, and barbeque chicken.

The Candwiches are being sold in vending machines across Utah, don't require refridgeration and have a long shelf life.

According to reports in the UK's Daily Mail , the Candwich is billed as "quick and tasty to eat" and is marketed at students, construction workers, and "soccer mums". It is also being marketed as a potential emergency food in the event of a disaster.

However, it has not been smooth sailing getting the product onto the market as one of the men who backed the idea has landed himself in hot water. He allegedly misappropriated $US139 million to fund loans into projects including Candwich Corp.

Travis L Wright is being sued for allegedly fraudulently misusing funds he raised from 175 investors between 2001 and 2009.

The New York Times reports that investors put money into the hands of Wright who promised returns of up to 24% on real estate investments but instead put money into Candwich development and other untried ideas.

Wright's companies also invested in a comany selling rose petals printed with greeting card sentiments.

This does not seem to have damaged the optimisim for the Candwhich brand though as they have announced plans for pepperoni piza and French toast flavours
