'Wilderness and the American Mind' with professor Nash at UCSB.

Years after I graduated, we ran into Dr. Nash in Yosemite where he was holding a seminar. We sat in for one of the sessions, held under a sierra sky in a meadow surrounded by sugar pines and meandering streams. It was wonderful to have Athena hear him speak. She appreciated his message immediately too.

I was going to say calculus, but I suppose really it was statistics, which I can more easily see applied in real life. I wasn't particularly good at either, but they appeal to my sense of order and OCD.

Brilliant teachers make their subject jump to life. Relic, I would think having your teacher speak in Usemite on widerness and the american mind would be a high point in learning.

I took a human development course in graduate school that knocked my socks off. Terry Tutchings taught the 3-hour/one night a week course. I could have listened to that man for hours - he pulled in so many topics that most others would not have tied into human development. god, I had a huge crush on him by the end of the semester and we kept in contact for years. He's retired now but I could find him if I wanted to.

In undergrad, I think there were two. One was a creative writitng course. Another was physical geology - learning how the earth works.

It was a class at UCD on Dialects. It was taught by a character actress (can't remember her name now) and we had a few "guests" come to the class such as William Holden and Hal Holbrook. It was a fun class, only worth a couple of units.

LOL Linda!! That's priceless!

I didn't have a lot of time in high school to take fun and interesting classes, but I'm hoping in college I'll have that opportunity.

So it would have to be a tie psychology which opened my eyes to my future and the teacher was hilarious, and of course drama, which pretty much speaks for itself.
