Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford will have to sit out part of his group's soon-to-launch co-headlining tour with fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Famers ZZ Top.

According to a statement from Aerosmith's camp, Whitford is on the disabled list as he "recuperates from recent surgery." The group did not specify what type of surgery the guitarist underwent.

Guitarist Bobby Schneck, who has played with Green Day, Weezer and Slash, will fill in for Whitford during the upcoming shows, according to the band's statement.

Health problems have been a running theme for the members of Aerosmith in recent years. Bassist Tom Hamilton was sidelined in August of 2006 in order to undergo radiation treatment for throat cancer; frontman Steven Tyler announced the following month that he was battling hepatitis C; and guitarist Joe Perry underwent knee surgery earlier this year.

Aerosmith will return to the stage Wednesday (6/10) in Maryland Heights, MO, the first of three headlining dates that the group will tackle before linking up with ZZ Top later this month. The two bands have shows stacked up into mid-September. Details are shown below.
