Following in the footsteps of their current touring partners Nine Inch Nails, alt-rock icons Jane's Addiction are offering fans a unique VIP experience with the band in return for donations aimed at helping a dying man get a heart transplant.

"Since this fundraiser began, the Jane's guys have been wanting to contribute somehow and they've come up with something really cool," Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor wrote in a message posted at NIN's website. "These guys actually set up and play for a good chunk of time in a room backstage to warm up and jam together BEFORE they hit the stage. Jane's stuff, covers, who knows.

"For $1,000 per person," Reznor's message continued, "they'll allow 10 guests per show (strictly limited) to come backstage and hang out with them while they play in their practice room (literally standing right next to them in a small, intimate living-room type environment), grab autographs and then watch Jane's Addiction from the side of the stage if you'd like."

Fans interested in participating can submit donations via a page at NIN's website. At press time, VIP opportunities were still available five of the seven remaining dates on the in-progress NIN/Jane's Addiction tour, which continues tomorrow in Camden, NJ.

As previously reported, Reznor last month began offering NIN VIP-experience packages in an effort to raise funds for Eric De La Cruz.

Demand eventually overran supply, at which point the members of Jane's Addiction stepped in to offer their services.

"The incredible response to the charity has raised around 900K and far surpassed anything we'd imagined we could achieve," Reznor wrote in a message posted this morning at the official NIN messageboard. "The consequences of this success means we spend all day meeting and greeting people WHICH WE ARE HAPPY TO DO backstage starting mid-afternoon leading up to showtime."
