1. Are you vacationing this summer (or season)? - I'm going on a few small getaways and a little retreat.

2. If you are, where are you going? If you're not, where would you like to go? - San Diego, Orange county and LA.

3. Do you plan trips based on a budget or is vacation a time to splurge? - I do both. Depends on my savings.

4. Is a vacation really a vacation if you're staying with friends/family? - I love hotels but I do have a couple of friends whose homes really feel like vacation to me.

5. What makes a vacation special? - For me it's sometimes where I go but it's also who I spend it.

1. Are you vacationing this summer (or season)? It's still unknown at this time, but we'll most likely do something.

2. If you are, where are you going? If you're not, where would you like to go? We originally planned on celebrating our 25th anniversary in Italy with a one week bike ride tour and another week on our own, but if Brent doesn't get a job soon, we'll postpone that to another time. We are also considering a trip to France with my parents. It's probably time to quit resisting a vacation with them since they are getting old.

3. Do you plan trips based on a budget or is vacation a time to splurge? Usually vacation is a time to splurge. This year it will be budget all the way (unless Brent gets that job soon).

4. Is a vacation really a vacation if you're staying with friends/family? Not for me. I love to escape to a fantasy world.

5. What makes a vacation special? My favorite vacation is renting a fancy house in some exotic location (especially on the ocean) and pretending for a short time that it's my real life!

Still up in the air (depending on summer employment) but hoping for at least a few short trips.

Visiting friends and family around the state and country, see some bands I love, the mountains.

I have to budget. I've had "splurge" vacations in the past, now they're but

Depends on the friends and/or family! Some are more relaxing than others.

I'll probably get a weekend here or there, and most likely it will be in San Diego, except for the Knobs shows at Cozy's. Not really a 'real' vacation though.

I'd like to go to Europe, and visit a friend in NYC on the way. There is family reunion planned for Germany next summer, and I hope to go.

Well, the point is to splurge, but I wouldn't go into debt.

When family/friends are more than a few hours' drive and you'll be there more than a couple nights, yeah.

Getting to see things and do things new and/or different. Meeting new people or getting back in touch with old friends and family.

We are taking a road trip to Texas (Dallas/Austin) to see family and for other reasons, so ultimately it doesn't feel like a vacation because it's not what I want to do (even though I do love TX), but we're trying to make it into one by driving and stopping places along the way. What I would really like to do is go and see my husband's family in upstate NY (Lake George area) or go to Hawaii.

3. Do you plan trips based on a budget or is vacation a time to splurge? These days it's all about a budget, though I don't like to feel too restricted.

4. Is a vacation really a vacation if you're staying with friends/family? It can be nice and fun to stay with family, but I like to have my own space and so I actually prefer staying in hotels rather than with family.

5. What makes a vacation special? Discovering new things - finding your way around town, enjoying the difference of how people do things compared to what you've known and sharing these experiences with whoever you are with and creating memories.

Hmf. I'd like to go the USA again, but of course, if there aren't any concerts this year...

Otherwise, I feel most secure in countries where English is the mother tongue!

Both...But I tend to have a good amount of money left after a vacation.

I like my space and to do my own thing, so I usually prefer staying in a hotel, but some friends make it so comfortable and you feel so relaxed, it's easy to stay with them.

My sons & I vacation for a week every summer at a small "resort" on the Comal River in New Braunfels, TX. I am also going to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival with friends. And maybe a short trip to Vegas.

Both, depending on finances. This year I'll be sticking more to a budget.
