Refugee 7 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 Sugar Ray will embark on a round of headlining shows this summer in anticipation of "Music For Cougars," the band's first new studio album since 2003. The pop-rock quintet warms up for the outing outing with a May 29 gig in Las Vegas, followed June gigs in Temecula, CA, and Denver. The meat of the tour begins in late July; the current schedule is below. Sugar Ray, which formed in 1992 under the moniker The Shrinky Dinks, still includes all of the band's original members: frontman Mark McGrath, Craig "DJ Homicide" Bullock, drummer Stan Frazier, bassist Murphy Karges and guitarist Rodney Sheppard. "Music For Cougars," the group's sixth studio effort, will hit shelves July 21, and follows 2003's "In the Pursuit of Leisure," which peaked at No. 29 on The Billboard 200. McGrath, who spent recent years co-hosting the entertainment TV show "Extra," discussed the forthcoming album's material with Billboard. "We tried to get away from the Sugar Ray sound on our last record--we even worked with the Neptunes on a couple songs--trying to reinvent ourselves but it didn't really work for us," the singer said in the interview. "But now we're like 'Let's give them a straight down the center, summer, sunny Sugar Ray song,' and I think 'Boardwalk' really embodies that." "Boardwalk," the first single from the new record, will hit airwaves in May, according to the Billboard article. Sugar Ray hit the big-time in the late '90s with "Fly," the lead track from the group's second release, "Floored," which received double platinum certification. Echosoftom 3 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 They are so much fun live. I'd love to see them again. Oh yeah, and Mark McGrath!
Marion 1,411 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 I'd love to see them again too. They are just fun. But they are playing Janus Landing in St. Pete which is the most stifling hot place to see a show. I can't believe they are playing there in the middle of August. Last time I went there, I literally almost passed out from the heat.
