Question of the Day - 04/05/09

Recommended Posts

I played clarinet in school band - not because I had any burning desire to play the instrument - but because my family had one and I was expected to participate in band. I got out as soon as I could. On my own I learned piano, but I'm a painter, not a musician.

Now that I have a broader knowledge of music generally than I had when I was 13 (which was zero), I have much more respect for different instruments, even the 'dorky' ones (in the eyes of a 13 year old) like the clarinet!

I played flute in concert band (not great, but not poorly either)..

I played piano in jazz band (people thought I was pretty good)...

I did marching band one year (HATED IT!) and played marimba/xylophone-type percussion instruments (I was okay...again, not great). I sucked at playing cymbals!

and in Pep band, I played bass guitar (not too good) one year and electric guitar another (okay, for the occasion)..

Was I band nerd or what??!? This one time, at band camp...

Music started for me back in elementary school. We were very fortunate to have such patient teachers. They taught us dance as well.

I tried the violin = lousy, clarinet = lousy, flute = we will not discuss, then I went on to learn and play piano = good, accordion = no laughing please, electric piano = good and organ = okay.

I played the trumpet in school.. They said I had a great tone.. I really wasn't into that much I did it for my Father who was a great player.. When he was in Calif during WW2 he met Harry James and played with his band at some USO clubs before he shipped out .. He met a lot of big stars back then

Yeah I played the recorder in elementary school. lol

I wish I would have gone out for band at our school. I love ours. Right now our band and color guard is in China. They get invited there every couple years. And they have played at the inaugural for Clinton in the 90's.

Mark me down for Clarinet as well, in grade school.

Once I got to HS I realized that chicks dig guitar players so I wheedled my parents into buying me a Sears "$20-wonder" acoustic guitar and never looked back...
