Steve Martin to make Opry debut

Recommended Posts

Steve Martin will make his Grand Ole Opry debut May 30, performing songs from his first musical album, "The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo." according to press release. The comedian/musician will be joined on the country-music program by Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Stuart Duncan, Tim O'Brien and John McEuen.

Martin, who has been playing banjo since he was a teenager, wrote or co-wrote all of the songs on his album, which features guests including Gill, Dolly Parton and Earl Scruggs. The album, which is being sold exclusively at Amazon.com, will be available at additional music retailers later this year.

Oh I heard about this on our radio. Apparently, Steve Martin is a phenomenal banjo player, it's pretty hard to play a Banjo too. I'd be interested in hearing him play.

^ Emmie he is amazing. He has been awarded a Grammy or two for his playing I believe. I can't remember which show I saw him playing on but he is the real deal. He is also "regarded as a master of a difficult five-fingered playing style known as clawhammer or frailing, in which the instrument’s strings are pushed down by fingernails, rather than pulled up with picks."

This is very cool. I saw him on SNL and I was pretty surprised. I knew he played the banjo, but had no idea how good he was.

I wonder if he'll have Matt Cartsonis for support, like he did on SNL. Matt is so talented. I really enjoyed seeing him that one time at the Warren Zevon tribute.
