Question of the Day - 03/07/09

Yes, I've seen them and I'm not afraid (well, if I saw a rattlesnake, I doubt I could box it take it out back!). We took pictures of a python we saw on a guided hike in Costa Rica (sorry, those pictures are not accessible from here). I told my husband later I think the guide calls his buddy to bring his pet python up for him to "find" on the hike, lol.

I liked my neighbor's boa and my cousins used to drop garden snakes down my shirt (and were always dissapointed when I didn't freak out) but finding a rattler would definately give me pause.

I knew I had rattlers around the ranch I used to live at but never saw any. My son did. But when I took a step over a wild one (not a rattler) I worried about my dog, so I went for the broom. The battle ended a tie. He firts yielded and took off, but a few minute later he snook right back into the greenhouse where he eventually disappeared.

My cat once caught one, brought it in the house and dropped it down the sink drain. Does that count? lol I think our cat was bringing us a gift...lol I've seen snakes out in wilds. They're pretty. Reptiles are so interesting.

It was a rattler, a Mojave (Green) in fact. Probably the most dangerous snake in North America. We used to kill the Mojaves if they showed up in the yard because they are so poisonous, but a few years ago people started poaching snakes of all types out here to sell in the city as pets, and the populations plummeted. Meanwhile the rodent populations skyrocketed. Since this one was lethargic from soaking in the cool water, he wasn't aggressive, so we managed to coax him into a box and relocate him.

They are beautiful animals.
