Refugee 7 Report post Posted March 6, 2009 WASHINGTON (AP) — Once again the old calendar on the wall says it's time to change the clock, trading an hour's sleep for more evening sunshine. Most Americans will set their clocks forward one hour this weekend. Officially the change to daylight-saving time occurs at 2 a.m. Sunday, local time, though most folks will reset their clocks and watches before going to bed. The shift also serves as a reminder to install new batteries in warning devices such as smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and weather radios because you want them to work when you need them. Changing the batteries in these devices can save lives because if the batteries don’t work, then they can’t warn you. It is very important to have these devices working at all times. In areas that observe the change, standard time will return on Nov. 1.

I`ll-be-on-the-left-side 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2009 Hate it! Even if I wake up earlier than usual at this time of year, it doesn`t mean I want to be made do so! It`s great when standard time returns in late fall, though

LizzieB 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2009 I wish they'd implement DST all year long. I like the extra summer sunlight in the evenings, just not losing an hour to get it. Just don't go back to standard time, and voila, problem solved. It's such a hassle that the US is ahead of the rest of the world. I never know what time to call my colleagues, especially the ones in Australia where they move back while we move forward, but not at the same time. It's so confusing! Starfish 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2009 daylight is good I guess it'll be dark when I take the dogs out in the morning for a couple of weeks, but I'll get over it. I like having it light at dinner time!
weird monkey 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2009 I just wish they would pick one or the other. The longer days don't make up for the fact that one day I was getting up at dawn, and the next I'm getting up in the dark - again - for a few more weeks. nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted March 7, 2009 i think the original thought behind changing the times was so that little kids didn't have to stand out by the road in the dark to wait for school buses. i personnally like the longer days when it's light til 9-10pm so you can get more done outside. i also like the dark, cuz i'm up most of the night and that's when i want it to be dark and peaceful with no distractions like phone calls and WD chattering! as far as i'm concerned, the nightime was made for 2 things, thieves and whores. i've never been a thief, but i've been called a whore!!!!!!! lol, well that's my story and i'm sticking with it! weird monkey 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2009 Darkness sucks! I'm naturally a night person, but the reality is I have to function during the day. It was still dark when I got up this morning at 6, and it didn't start to get light until nearly 6:30.
