NEW YORK, March 4 (UPI) -- British rock 'n' roll star Paul McCartney has agreed to headline a benefit concert at New York's Radio City Music Hall, said the David Lynch Foundation.

McCartney will be joined on stage at the April 4 charity concert by special guests such as his fellow former Beatle Ringo Starr, Sheryl Crow, Donovan, Eddie Vedder, Ben Harper, Moby, Paul Horn, Bettye LaVette and Jim James, organizers said.

Tickets are to go on sale Monday through www.ticketmaster.com.

Fillmaker David Lynch, hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, actress Laura Dern, and other surprise guests are to fill out the star-studded slate as presenters.

The "Change Begins Within" concert is being held to raise funds to teach 1 million at-risk children to meditate -- giving them life-long tools to overcome stress and violence and promote peace and success in their lives, the foundation said.

In 1968, the Beatles, Donovan, and Paul Horn traveled to India to study Transcendental Meditation with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The trip's dramatic impact was evident in their music and is credited for the acceptance of meditation in the West today, the organization said.

"In moments of madness, it has helped me find moments of serenity," McCartney said about meditation in a news release.

He added that he supports the work of the David Lynch Foundation to bring the technique to children for the same reason.

"I would like to think that it would help provide them a quiet haven in a not-so-quiet world," he said.

Always great to see Paul McCartney doing something for charity. This is a good cause - and a good point. We live in a fast-paced world with the information highway driving us a bit insane at times.

Meditation is a great idea, and if children can be taught to meditate, or at least find some quiet, reflective time in their day, it would be one way to control stress and bring peace to their lives.

not sure beth, i'm starting to hate these 1 day trips. i'd like to stay longer, but it's not much fun to stay a week on your own without friends to share it with. btw, tix for this event start at $79.50 and go up to $504.50!! i guess if you get the $79.50 ticket, you'll be sitting somewhere in new jersey!!!!

I know, Nurk....it is more fun to have friends share the show with you. I do know how much the tickets are....and even with the $79 I would have been there. It is just I have so much going on...the week before is Beatles Fest......Sunday, the 5th, I see Jack Bruce at the Pony then I go off on my trip and I do not want to be exhausted for that.....

Lotta, you have to come to NYC one day....we would have so much fun!!
