Refugee 7 Report post Posted December 10, 2008 Coldplay Coldplay has responded to Joe Satriani's copyright infringement lawsuit over its song "Viva La Vida," which he claims contains" substantial, original portions" of his 2004 track "If I Could Fly." "If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental, and just as surprising to us as to him," the band says in a statement. "Joe Satriani is a great musician, but he did not write the song 'Viva La Vida.' We respectfully ask him to accept our assurances of this and wish him well with all future endeavors." "I did everything I could to avoid a court case with this situation," Satriani told Music Radar. "But Coldplay didn't want to talk about it. They just wanted this whole thing to go away. Maybe they figured this little guitar player guy will leave them alone after a while, I don't know."
Merritt 8 Report post Posted December 10, 2008 Well even if they did maliciously take his song for their own, they're not gonna come out and say, "Ah! You got us! Haha, jokes on us!" Still...isn't a lawsuit a bit much? Its just a song...
brandonwood20 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2008 I agree Merritt. Whenever I hear "lawsuit" it just sounds like some one is trying to get in on the loot...
pettyfreak94 1 Report post Posted December 10, 2008 I agree with both of you! I don't even think the two songs sound the same.
