Refugee 7 Report post Posted December 6, 2008 Dweezil Zappa and his "Zappa Plays Zappa" crew have lined up new dates for early 2009. Zappa and his band continue their slate of "You Can't Fit On Stage Anymore" shows in "intimate venues," according to a press release, with a four-night run in West Hollywood, CA. The group then continues on to San Francisco for a New Year's Eve co-headlining show with Les Claypool. The band sticks to the West Coast in early2009, hitting the Pacific Northwest in January, and returning to California for a few shows in March. Details are included below. "Zappa Plays Zappa on DVD," a live video from the band's initial tour, was released last year. The 2-DVD set captures the group's 2006 shows in Seattle and Portland, OR. "The very first thing I did was, I listened to every record that Frank ever made in chronological order, so I could basically hear his life's work and the evolution of his music, and become familiar with everything as much as possible," Zappa explained to LiveDaily last year on the challenge he faced in mastering his father's music. "From there, I chose what I wanted to emphasize in a show," he added. "When people heard that I was going to do this, [the attitude] was, 'Oh man, that's going to suck. He's just going to go out there and try and play the hits and pretend to be Frank,' or something like that. The cynicism that was prevailing, I knew that's what I'd be up against, but I wasn't concerned. I knew that whatever we were going to do, as soon as we hit the stage, people would have respect for what we were doing, because I knew how much dedication went into the preparation."
