Katie 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 Yep - I saw Ben Folds open for John Mayer. For me, the concert was pretty much over when Ben left the stage. It was all downhill from there. haha
Echosoftom 3 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 It's happened once or twice. The one time I can specifically recall was years ago when Cyndi Lauper opened for Cher. As much as I like Cher, I think Cyndi stole the show.
agirl 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 Maybe a few times. I can't think of any off hand.

Starfish 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 Yes, there are a few concerts I went to specifically to see the opening act.
MaryJane 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 That's never happened to me. Except for Tom's shows, all of the opening acts have sucked.
LizzieB 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 I've seen some shows where I liked the opening act as much as the headliner.

AmyLou 5 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 yes - accidentally. Mere Haggard opened for Bob Dylan here a few years back and his set was infinitely better.

Pettyjunkie 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 Yeah, Kenny Chesney just shouldn't have gotten on stage because Brooks and Dunn were way better.
Refugee 7 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 More than a few times. One sticks out in particular. Back in the early 80s, my boyfriend and I and about 10 other couples went to see some band with numbers for a name, can't remember, Billy Squier and headliner Journey (with Steve Perry, Greg Rollie and Neal Schon). Nobody at that time had heard of Billy Squier, he hadn't even come out with The Stroke yet, yet he stole the show! Santana's opening act stole the show from him, too. Not hard to do, lol. The Dirty Knobs stole the show when they opened for the Mother Hips. After the Knobs, we left. In 2003 at Summerfest, Bo Diddley did an outstanding job! That was one show to equal TP&TH. wild1forever 152 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 Yes, once or twice. I saw Aerosmith back in their drug-addled days (early 80s), and the opening act was MUCH better than they were.
Beamish 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) Maybe they weren't actually better than the headliners, but in my opinion the Del Fuegos gave Tom and the boys a run for their money the year I saw them at Blossom, nad they were definately better than Dylan was at the Greek a few years later. heartbreaker1976 2 Report post Posted September 25, 2008 Los Lobos were awesome when they opened for John Mellecamp. Los Lobos are waaaay better live than they are on records. If you ever have chance to see them - DO IT!
Forever Pettys Girl 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2008 Yeah, Kenny Chesney just shouldn't have gotten on stage because Brooks and Dunn were way better. Brooks & Dunn opened up for Kenny Chesney? That's just wrong!!! Yes back in 1987 I was a metal head. Megadeth opened up for Dio. I went to the concert specifically for Megadeth and they were better.
