Pettyjunkie 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2008 LOL Barb, I was thinking the same thing at first! I really can't look at them. My mom was adopted and then no one knows on the other side of my family. I've always been curious though.
wild1forever 152 Report post Posted September 11, 2008 I know a reasonable amount about my dad's side of the family. The most surprising thing was that there was a "love triangle" back in the 1930s, and one of my cousins shot himself over it.
poppiesgal 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2008 Research is ongoing on my Dad's side (he's writing a book on his family's history). One cool find was an original journal kept by his great-great grandfather as the family made their way west from Nebraska via covered wagon. Entries describe trails, weather conditions and people they met. One was hilarious - about "hills so steep the horse shit's landin' in the wagon". As for my Mom's side - she's not much into digging up family history. My sisters and I took her on a trip to Ellis Island 10+ years ago and we found her grandmother's name on record there - that was neat.
Katie 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2008 I know a pretty good deal. Nothing super surprising, but I do have some scandelous stories that would make a pretty good book!
Refugee 7 Report post Posted September 11, 2008 My mom and dad didn't talk too much about their families. What I did find out, was after they died, so I have no way of knowing if it's true or not.
KansasPettyFan 1 Report post Posted September 11, 2008 We know a fair amount on both of my parents' sides but there is nothing scandalous. darn it! And LOL, Barb!
November 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2008 I know more about my dad's side of the family than my mom's...probably because they were more interesting. His side was full of reckless, crazy artistic types. I like to think I take after them...lol. Or maybe not.
jawallac 48 Report post Posted September 12, 2008 Hair roots? Yep. I have an appointment to have them covered up this Saturday. Family roots? Yep. I had a genealogical adventure weekend not long ago: took pix of the grave markers, visited with distant relatives and looked at old pix. I'm also in the local genealogical society.
