Refugee 7 Report post Posted August 30, 2008 Gracie a 9 year old German Shepard was found in the hills of Tujunga California a very coyote infested area, dumped by an owner who obviously would not keep her with her medical condition. After one week in rescue Gracie has been evaluated by a specialist and it seems she has DM or Degenerative Myelopathy. Gracie will never regain use of her back legs and as she gets older she could lose all mobility. She also has a baseball size tumor on her front body area that must be removed. She had a wheelchair but it did not fit and was very painful for her. So far we have raised $1100.00 we need more donations to help pay Gracie's current medical bill of $700, Her upcoming tumor removal, boarding and Physical Therapy, a wheelchair that fits her properly and a 20 hour round trip transport to get her to her forever home with Critter Crossings Rescue Retirement. Please help an old girl who just wants to be loved for whatever amount of time she has left. DONATE TODAY!! IT IS TAX DEDUCTIBLE! nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted August 30, 2008 yes, please give a $1 or whatever you can afford to gracie. i personally bought a newborn west highland white terrier (westie) for my daughters 10th birthday. what i didn't know at the time was that westies are prone to cancer. after 13 years, our little westie was diagnosed with cancer from a tumor in her uterus. sure we had a choice, operate to remove it (and take your chances) or just wait til the time was right to put her to sleep. we decided to wait and i'm glad we did. she lived for another 2 years and always knew we loved her and ran around the house like a crazed woman til the last day. that last day, we woke up and she was in her bed, but facing the wall, she had to drag herself across the floor during the night to get to her bed and lay down (her back legs didn't work anymore). naturally, when we woke up and said "it's time" it was a sunday. we found a place that was open and made the trip. WD on 1 side and daughter on the other, i sat inches away from our little katie and watched her eyes as she left this world. it was very hard to do, and i'll never do it again. but that's a very essential part of life, you not only have to learn to live, but you have to learn to handle death. and that's why i made this long ass post to ask you for your help and donate to the dogs and cats and everything. it doesn't matter who you give too, just do it. god knows our government won't. it's up to you and me. we're on our own, get used to it.
