Refugee 7 Report post Posted August 27, 2008 Kid Rock has hit out at stars such as Scarlett Johansson and Ben Affleck who publicly endorse politicians, insisting celebrity campaigns actually "hurt" those running for office. The rocker believes entertainers should not weigh in on affairs of the state - because their opinions could affect how voters perceive candidates. He says, "I think celebrity endorsements hurt politicians. As soon as somebody comes out for a politician, especially in Hollywood, when they all go, 'I'm voting for this guy!' - I go, 'That's not who I'm voting for!' "I truly believe that people like myself, who are in a position of entertainers in the limelight, should keep their mouth shut on politics because at the end of the day, I'm good at writing songs and singing. "What I'm not educated in is the field of political science. And so for me to be sharing my views and influencing people of who I think they should be voting for... I think would be very irresponsible on my part." Sheryl Crow, Michael Stipe and Christina Aguilera have joined Affleck and Johansson in speaking publicly about their political preferences. Beamish 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 (edited) At least he admitted he doesn't know enough about politics to be blithering on about them- wish some other people would do the same. I don't think he should be telling other celebs whether or not to publically endorse someone, but I can see how how he might think some of the shallower celebs are just endorsing the popular candidate because it's trendy to do so and makes them look good. poppiesgal 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 ... as americans, we were given the right to freedom of speech. so shut up kid rock ... LMAO - Nurk ... you knucklehead. I get what you're saying, hun. But you gotta admit - that right there is funny! :icon_laugh: What I find sorta scary is that some folks actually allow celebrity opinions drive their own thoughts and decisions. *shudder* Please people - if you're gonna vote, educate yourself on the candidates and what they stand for from a reliable source. I get into real Dragnet mode in this arena - you know ... "just the facts, ma'am - just the facts". And good luck on your quest for the truth in politics ... sometimes it's like searching for the proverbial needle in the haystack.

gatorlily 3 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 Who is actually influenced by a celebrity endorsement anyhow? Do people really go to the voting booth undecided but see a commercial of Christina Aguilera telling them to vote for Obama and from that they make up their mind? "Oh, well, if xtina says he's okay, he must be!" I don't listen to any celebrity endorsements. I have no problems with the celebrities giving their opinoins or showing their support but I don't vote for a candidate based on my favorite actor's opinion. I think a lot of endorsements end up hurting the celebrity more than the politicians. I know quite a few people who have been turned off by Nugent's politics and have stopped listening to his music, even though they used to love it. I also know people who won't listen to Bruce because he is too liberal.
