Echosoftom 3 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 I love going to watch the professional fireworks shows. But anymore the home fireworks have become too dangerous especially with all this dry brush.

WildflowerNJ 136 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 I love to watch them at the beach. But yes, I am a little afraid of those home ones. Our new neighbors had them last year.....it is just so dry here, I am worried....

jawallac 48 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 Love 'em. One of my favorite 4 of Julys was spent with my sister's family when the kids were quite young. The fireworks started and the adults "oooo'd" and "ahhhh'd" along with the kids... The evening was really special because we also 'named' the fireworks as they exploded: Now that's a spectacular DoozyWopper! I love that SparkleShiner! etc.

surfnburn 5 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 When you live near a lot of flammable nature, it's scary. California has had too many fires. A lot of towns have banned them. In past years, I've gone to the Golden Gate bridge area and watched the professional fireworks over the bay. They're beautiful. We used to hear the occasional Chinatown fireworks from the neighbors when I lived in San Francisco. It always reminds me of celebrations.

Wingspan91089 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 I love fireworks!! We get them every year and my dad sets them off. Actually, my favorite memory is of my dad setting off the fireworks a few weeks after he had surgury on his leg, and he was using crutches at the time. He'd light the fireworks and hop away on his good foot, and fall on his butt 10 feet away. Then he'd get up, light another firework, hop back, fall, and light another one. LOL! That went on for hours.
PumpkinBumpkin 1 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 ^lmao! I love watching the professional firework shows. Today is my favorite holiday so I try to watch as many firework shows as I can.
Katie 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 When I was younger, I loved them. Now, I only go to the free local professional ones. Much cheaper and safer that way!
Starfish 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 I enjoy them but don't make a huge effort to see them anymore - it was a big deal when the kids were little, though.

emmie 2 Report post Posted July 5, 2008 LOVE them. They are one of my most favourite things in the whole wide world! LOL. When Jeff was younger we ALWAYS had our own fireworks display at home with lots of friends and family along with a bbq etc. We also went to alot of professionally run displays. I know for sure I got more of a charge out of them then Jeff did lol. In fact just the other day, he mentioned "hey mom - remember when you used to drag me along to all those firework displays and I'd be half asleep and you'd be looking up at the sky like you were the kid?" - Those were the days We used to have fireworks in England on November the 5th "Guy Fawkes Day". It was always cold at that time of year. We used to bundle up with blankets round us to watch the fireworks in the garden. We'd have potatoes in their jackets and sausages that had been roasted on a bonfire. It was really exciting and was a happy childhood memory. It was always at my grandparents house in the country. I remember I used to have to have a nap in the middle of the day so I could stay up light for the festivities. I know it sounds odd - and my family have said so - but then maybe I am a little strange - I'd like to have a fireworks display when I die - to "send me off" LOL - Maybe they could just chuck me on the bonfire and be done with me HAHA
Nel 71 Report post Posted July 5, 2008 ^ A slightly similar thing happened in Indianapolis. Meredith Smith, a longtime fireworks organizer, died earlier this year and he asked that a small amount of his cremated remains be placed in a fireworks shell that would "create a white burst in the sky for the show's finale." He went out with a bang last night. (no pun intended.) Anyway......I love fireworks displays. Last night we watched the Country Club's fireworks from our patio. We spotted three new designs this year. Tonight we're going to see Champaign's big annual event. It's always spectacular and it's choreographed to music from a local radio station, so no matter where you are, you just tune your dial to the station and...voila!...it's showtime! But, we're also lucky enough...since we live on the edge of town...to see many of the small town fireworks displays. We can just take a short drive on a country road and see fireworks all around us. It's pretty neat, actually, to watch them in all directions.
