Beamish 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2008 Their is something iv been dying to know. See i know tons and tons of things about Tom Petty, almost everything but their is one thing that i dont know and i want someone who has been a TP&TH fan since day one to tell me what it was like when they first started, was people crazy about them, were they really famous, were they big, what was the reaction when they first started? I want to know everything because i unfortunetly didnt get to live through the 80's so i dont really know how it was to be a Petty fan then. So if their is someone who can help, please its killing me. They were sorta known in the 70s for "American Girl", "Breakdown", and "I Need To Know", but became household names after "Refugee" was released. In Europe, they had a big following right from the start. What still amuses me is that my aunts played the first 2 albums all the time, but thumbed their noses at Damn The Torpedos as being too commercial and thought Tom had sold out. Patty- I'm sorry you are going through this...

Beamish 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2008 The "Thriller" and "Don't Come Around Here No More" videos often used to be played back-to-back, and scared the bejesus out of the little kid I babysat that summer.
