Mudcrutch - Song of the Day - Six Days On The Road

Recommended Posts

Well, I pulled out of Pittsburgh

I'm rollin' down the Eastern Seaboard

I've got my diesel wound up

She's running like she never did before

There's a speed zone ahead, all right

I don't see a cop in sight

Six days on the road and I'm gonna see my baby tonight

I've got ten forward gears

And a Georgia overdrive

I'm taking little white pills

My eyes are open wide

Well I just passed a 'Jimmy' and a 'White

I've been passin' everything in sight

Six days on the road and I'm gonna see my baby tonight

Well it seems like a month

Since I kissed my baby good-bye

Could have a lot of women

But I'm not like some other guys

I could find one to hold me tight

But I could never believe it's right

Six days on the road and I'm gonna see my baby tonight

Well the I.C.C. is checking down the line

I'm a little overweight and my log's three days behind

But nothing bothers me tonight

I can dodge them scales all right

Six days on the road and I'm gonna see my baby tonight

Well my rig's a little old

That don't mean she's slow

And the smoke's rolling black as coal

Well my hometown's coming in sight

If you think I'm happy you're right

Six days on the road and I'm gonna see my baby tonight

Six days on the road and I'm gonna see my baby tonight

Six days on the road and I'm gonna see my baby tonight

What a great cover song. Just wants to make you get up and boogie! Love how Benmont lets loose on the keys.

Can't help but smile when I hear this song. Fun, fun song.

Oh yes!! As soon as I heard these opening chords, I was bopping along with it! I love love love this song...Gram Parsons sang this and I really do love hearing Mudcrutch's version! To hear this one live is the best!! Another song to sing along with....brings smiles to me.....country rock at it's best!!!

Oh yeah, I remember how good this sounded live at The Fillmore. On my long lone drive home from SF after the show, this song just stayed in my head. It's a real rocker. By morning it was on my faves list. Yep, this was a very good choice for a cover. :045:

If you listened to country music back in the 90's, a country-rock band, Sawyer Brown, had a gigantic hit with their remake of this song. Mark Miller's voice fit this song perfectly. Oddly enough, Mark, and his keyboard player, Hobie, are originally from Florida. Mudcrutch does a great job on this song, also.

You have to check out Dave Dudley's version...(the original ) as he sings with great deep voice. My band started doing the Burrito version, and now that Tom released it , we can say here's one from Tom's new Cd. So I'm glad they covered it. Truckers love this !!
