1. Describe where you grew up: A small close knit diverse neighborhood right in the city of Los Angeles. It's an area called West Adams. Very old. Lots of big old houses. I lived about 2 miles from USC. I hear now alot of those old homes have been turned into sorority and fraternity houses.

2. Do you wear any jewelry? - Only earrings. I'm not a jewelry person.

3. What do you have too much of? - medications

Friday Five - 05/09/08

1. Describe where you grew up:

It was a new development. Trees and wide blueberries growing..there was a Park one house down where in the summer they would have Recreation. We walked to the Elementary School....lots of kids my age around. People knew their neighbors and helped out...it was a good place to grow up..

2. Do you wear any jewelry?

I do. Always some kind of earrings (I have pierced ears), my silver wedding band and a silver bracelet I bought in Mexico in the 70's.

3. What do you have too much of?

I can think of alot of things, lol! It is hard for me not to bring home an extra plant or two...

Me, sometimes...

Growing up, everyone called me Kootchie. My sister still does sometimes...I knew when my parents called Elizabeth something was up....

1. Describe where you grew up: In South Sacramento. It was a very close neighborhood with people we still keep in touch with today. In fact I'm meeting some of them on Monday for lunch.

1. Describe where you grew up. I grew up on a small country back road about 20 minutes from the city of Monroe, home of Gen. Custer. My road had lots of farm land and farms, and wooded areas where I would take my dog, Teddy and go hiking. When I was younger I always thought that I lived in a nice little all american town. It was not to I became an adult and found out about all the corruption at the county courthouse, how just a few families "ran" the county's politics, policies, etc. How if you knew someone, or if someone was your relative you could violate all kinds of laws and get away with it. I've been told that Monroe is a "good old boy town" and it certainly has prooved it many times over.

I wish they would've taught this in school, instead of all the crap about us each having our civil rights and freedoms. There are no "civil rights" or "freedoms" once you test to find out. The sad thing is most people don't even know or care, they want their safe, fantasy world.

2. I have wedding ring and thats it. I've worn big rings before ( ala Fats Domino and Elvis ), but that was just for the stage.

1. Describe where you grew up: I grew up in South Bend, Indiana. When I was very young we lived in a very family oriented neighborhood - I walked to school and the pool, we played "kick the can" at night with the kids in the neighborhood. We had big pancake breakfasts at the swim club and a bike parade every Fourth of July. I used to hang out in the woods with my friends and never worried about safety or strangers or any of the things that obsess us today. My dad used to flood our backyard so we could ice skate in the winter. Eventually we moved to the outskirts of town to "the farm," where my sister and I had horses and my mom had a huge garden. It was a wonderful place to grow up.

Describe where you grew up:In the outskirts of Liverpool,all my family lived very close by , just a couple of minutes between us all.I had a great childhood playing with lots of friends and all my cousins,even though we were close to the city and all the facilities we also had loads of green fields to play in(it was safe to run wild back then)My teenage years were just the best as it was the 60s and liverpool was the place to be

^ just like MJ - outskirts of Liverpool (New York!) a suburb of Syracuse. Small bedroom community, Syracuse is a depressed economy, not very pretty, very heavy snow in winter, ugh... We had lakes, woods, streams etc. to run all over though, so that was good.

2. Do you wear any jewelry?

A beautiful ring on my left hand, one on my right these days. Simple earrings always, on occasion a bracelet, necklace or watch, never more than one at a time. Who was it who said put on your jewelery, then take off one piece and you'll have the correct amount on? whatever - it works!

Access to information - I waste alot of time looking into things that at the time seem important but will never happen.

1. Describe where you grew up: A very small Western Kentucky town(Henderson). Everyone knows my grandmother there because she worked at the Dairy Queen for 12 years so I always get a nice greeting when I come back.

1. Describe where you grew up: called a bedroom community of Corpus Christi, TX - Portland, TX. A small town of 7000 with the elementary school across the street - a block from the beach and about 12 miles from Port Aransas. Like Nancy, we had a street full of kids and we played well into the night. Sometimes set a tent up in the backyard and slept outside. Heat, heat and more heat with all the humidity you can handle. While you northerners were ice stating, we would ride our bikes around collecting discarded Christmas trees (left for trash pickup after Christmas) to store in our fort. There were be kiddie block wars as we stole each others trees. This would continue until school started back - winner had the most trees. Another activity was to head down to beach for some mud-sliding on the dunes. We had one dune (mix of sand and clay) that formed a natural slide. We would haul water up from the bay to turn the slide to a slick, clay mud and spend the day sliding down. Always meant some torn jeans by the time done.

2. Do you wear any jewelry? My wedding ring, earrings, and a dimond drop that was my grandmothers.

3. What do you have too much of? certainly not time - so will go with pounds as that's the easiest to obsess on and the hardest to work on

In a hot hot desert where everyone comes for the winter and leaves for the summer. Its very dull during the summer with nothing to do. Winters are fun though.

1. Describe where you grew up: In San Jose, in a house that was on three acres of land and included a huge garden. At the time, I just wanted to live like my friends did--on a paved street with lots of friends nearby to play with. Looking back, I didn't know how good I had it.

1. Describe where you grew up: - Very small town on the Central Coast of CA. We are right by VAFB, in between San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara. Great place to grow up while little, but once you hit high school, there's nothing here. Lot of retirees live here also.

The suburbs of San Antonio, TX. Just a normal 60s/70s neighborhood with lots of kids. It was fun. We had lots of family in town, and that was fun, too.

A small suburban south Jersey town.. very family oriented... LOTS of kids. The town had a huge baseball/softball league as well as football and cheerleading, soccer, etc. Everyone knew everyone and us kids were always playing outside... from swimming, to baseball, to riding our bikes, hiking through the woods, playing whiffle ball, sledding in the wintertime, building snowman, building forts, you name it, we did it. My parents house still stands there.. I will be very sad the day we sell it.

1. Describe where you grew up: About 5 minutes from here in a subdivision. We used to build forts in empty lots with 'borrowed' building materials from new construction, rode bikes a lot, swam at the pool (that is where I met this nice man I am married to!), we'd have sleepovers and go walk the golf course at night or sometimes sneak my friend's dad's golf cart out. Got it stuck in the snow once! LOL Lots of good times. My parents still live there.

1. Describe where you grew up: In a big town that has waaay too much crime, road construction, and too many spoiled, idiot rich kids who think the whole world revolves around them. Unfortunately, I still live there.

1. Describe where you grew up: In a central area of Houston officially known as 'Plainview' on the city plats. Halfway between River Oaks (rich & sophisticated) and The Montrose (hippies). I gravitated to The Montrose and the hippies, LOL. Lots of kids in the neighborhood. In the summertime, we stayed out long after dark playing kickball or kick the can in the intersection under the streetlight. And similar to what Kira said, during Christmas break, we would collect the disgarded Christmas trees and build forts with them.

2. Do you wear any jewelry? Earrings (pierced ears), a watch, a necklace that has my zodiac sign of Cancer on it (kind of goofy and very old school, but a friend gave it to me when I was 14, it has sentimental value and darned if I don't still believe in that sunsign stuff to a certain degree), a silver ring given to me by my best friend in high school, a silver & copper ring my son gave me, and a gold ring with rubies that was my great-grandmother's and was handed down to me by my grandmother. After that, any variety of bracelets and necklaces depending on my mood.

3. What do you have too much of? Extra weight; clothes that no longer fit; crap - I am a sentimental fool and save newspaper articles, magazines, posters, ticket stubs, hotel room keys, all of my grandmother's mementos and photographs.

5. What's your nickname? I don't really have one now. When I was very young, my grandmother called me Kay-Kay, and I have a cousin who still calls me that. And also when I was young, one of my aunt's friends called me 'Cupcake'. Ha, ha, ha. I HATED that!!! Actually, I guess Kay is my nickname, since my given name is Kathryn.
