I don't carry a purse, but since I got my Elph, I rarely leave the house without my camera bag - Inside it has a camera, an iPod, binoculars, a magnifying glass, and a few peripherals. Oppurtunities for shots like that never last long. And you never know when you'll see something interesting, like this:

(in case you can't make heads or tails, they are fountains made of cast-off junk.)

The Elph also fits in my pocket when even a bag is more than I want to carry.
