weird monkey 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2011 ^ I need to order a Mac Mini today. My old work PC has gotten a little too curmugeonly for my comfort, so I was afraid I was going to have to buy another PC for economy's sake. A friend was teasing me when I told him I was going to buy a PC, and when I told him why, he offered to make up the difference so I could buy a Mac ($300 vs $700) instead! I am going to use the laptop in my studio/office, because I already have the cursed XP, Quicken and other Windows junk I need on it, plus I use it for my painting. The Mini will be my 'house' computer, replacing the old G5 iMac which developed serious motherboard problems last summer, and has been sitting dark in a corner ever since. So it's kind of win-win. I get to keep using XP (and Outlook Express - or I may start using Thunderbird, it's pretty nice and it's cross platform) a little longer, and I am on my way back to having a Windows-less world. nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 waiting for UPS to get here with 2 new belkin wireless USB adapters. the pc i was using and will now be my backup pc has all the slots filled, i would have to remove the CAT 5 card or the TV/FM radio card to install the wireless card. the WD's new pc is an HP slimline and when i opened it, there are no slots open, so i had to buy the USB adapter for that, so i just bought 2. now i don't have to remove anything. when they get here, i'll probably start setting up my backup pc and get it networked. the WD's new pc might take a while, she wants to update some documents and save them for transfer. she said take my time on putting in her new pc, i think she is afraid of what windows 7 is and what the new programs might look like.....lol. nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted March 4, 2011 (edited) it started out ok, was going to the bank and some grocery shopping with mom, but the WD was off and decided to go too. that's when i should have just went back to bed. we usually hit 5 stores, but after 2 hours in the 1st store, i was ready to shoot anyone in site. that was it for me, but on the way home we passed another store we planned on going to and naturally, being the good guy i am (lol) we stopped. going through the bakery section to get bread, i noticed the cakes and other stuff. i don't buy cakes, pies and pastry, but i noticed that they had 1/4, 1/2 and full sheet cakes. the also had a few 2 layer 8" round cakes, but they had a huge amount of the round cakes cut in half on flat plates with the clear plastic domes. the WD wondered why sell a 1/2 cake, i told her that at todays prices, no one can afford a whole cake! i think i'll get on the pc in the morn and make a sign, saying "you can't afford a whole cake, so buy 1/2". then i'll go back to the store and tape it on the top cake on the heap.
