Refugee 7 Report post Posted March 13, 2008 New wave icon Graham Parker hits the road again this week for the first leg of a run of East Coast club and cafe dates that will keep him busy through the spring months. The British singer/songwriter will appear tomorrow night (3/14) in Bayshore, NY, to kick off the current trek, which runs through early April. In all, Parker has 12 dates lined up for the outing; the singer's full itinerary is listed at the end of this article. The always-prolific Parker released a "comeback" album of sorts last year, "Don't Tell Columbus," which garnered him some of his best reviews in years. A free MP3 download of the album's "Stick to the Plan" is available at Bloodshot Records' mini-site for the album and artist. Prior to "Columbus," Parker released 2005's "Songs of No Consequence," featuring his sometime backing band, The Figgs, with whom the singer has worked on and off since 1996. A live album featuring Parker and The Figgs, "103 Degrees in June," followed in 2006. Parker emerged from the British pub-rock scene of the early '70s to gain fame alongside Elvis Costello as one of punk and New Wave's "angry young men" archetypes. He released his best-known works late in the '70s with his backing band, The Rumour, including what was possibly his most critically admired album, 1979's "Squeezing Out Sparks." Rolling Stone magazine ranked the disc No. 45 on its 1987 list of the Top 100 albums from 1967-1987; Parker's 1976 debut, "Howlin' Wind," ranked No. 54 on the same list.
