help me name this song

Recommended Posts

So I hear this song from time to time on Tom Petty radio, I think it is a cover and the lyrics are something like

"have 6 weeks, 3 days... and miles to go"

Those are probably wrong and I've seen it live but don't remember where help help help

mudcrutch Six days on the road seems to be a likely canidate.

Quote
Well, I pulled out of Pittsburgh
I'm rollin' down the Eastern Seaboard
I've got my diesel wound up
She's running like she never did before
There's a speed zone ahead, all right
I don't see a cop in sight
Six days on the road and I'm gonna see my baby tonight
I've got ten forward gears
And a Georgiea overdrive
I'm taking little white pills
My eyes are open wide
Well I just passed a 'Jimmy' and a 'White
I've been passin' everything in sight
Six days on the road and I'm gonna see my baby tonight
Well it seems like a month
Since I kissed my baby good-bye
Could have a lot of women
But I'm not like some other guys
I could find one to hold me tight
But I could never believe it's right
Six days on the road and I'm gonna see my baby tonight
Well the I.C.C. is checking down the line
I'm a little overweight and my log's three days behind
But nothing bothers me tonight
I can dodge them scales all right
Six days on the road and I'm gonna see my baby tonight
Well my rig's a little old
That don't mean she's slow
And the smoke's rolling black as coal
Well my hometown's coming in sight
If you think I'm happy you're right
Six days on the road and I'm gonna see my baby tonight
Six days on the road and I'm gonna see my baby tonight
Six days on the road and I'm gonna see my baby tonight

Guess you can rule out TPATH's How Many More Days. It has theme of time, but it doesn't count off the hours or miles.

Q: Does your mystery song sound like it's TPATH / Mudcrutch / Wilbury's playing? Could it be another band?

...but how many more days? / Until I can see you again? / How long will that take me / I need to see you again. / Oh, how many more days?

Because if it's not Tom, I do have another suggestion.  If it is this, I feel it's worth an extra bonus point of smugness.  I shall be unbearable.  Just saying.

With your clues of miles, hours and either miles to go or hours to go ... how about Charlie Musselwhite?  His approach seems to be "all music can be improved by adding blues harp" - which puts him solidly into the kind of music that's a good fit for TP Radio.  Live album 2015 I Ain't Lying.  Only thing that disqualifies him is that extra g - TPATH might've gone with I Ain't Lyin'. (More so than, say, Celine Dion who has a similarly named song).

When the sun rose this morning I had 300 miles to go
When the sun rose this morning I had 300 miles to go
It's gonna feel real good when I walk in my baby's door

On the road nine months, drifting from town to town
On the road nine months, drifting from town to town
Every morning, every morning you know I'm highway bound

Well, I ain't in no hurry, I didn't come to stay
Well, I ain't in no hurry, I didn't come to stay
I just drop by, baby, to drive your blues away

Well, I'm rolling down the highway, 300 miles to go
Well, I'm rolling down the highway, 300 miles to go
I've been drivin' 30 hours, I got six more hours to go

PS here's a link to setlistfm which lists where he's been playing live lately.  https://www.setlist.fm/search?query=charlie+musselwhite

  • Blues festivals & other gigs - Maybe you saw him play at a festival & that's gone into your music memory?
  • Then hearing this later on TP Radio & thinking it's TPATH / Mudcrutch, that would surely trigger a music-lover's brain to say "Hang on, who's this? What's this song???
