Another New Guitar

Recommended Posts

I've been seeing these a lot lately and even Mike Campbell playing one in some concerts I've been watching. I like it and have been looking at them for a few months. Well looking tonight, I decided to buy at GUITARVAULT in LA. The tipping point was a 10% off coupon that brought the price down to $764, so I bought it. Amazon had it for $769, but I didn't like the reviews of the seller, so I stayed away from them. As soon as I bought it, the site now says "SOLD OUT". Anyway here is my new Guild S-200 T-Bird. I hope it arrives fast!

IF you are looking for one of these, I just got an email from my brother and he found one for $636 at Manchester Music Mill. It's new, but considered "B Stock". I can't see anything wrong from the pictures, so take a look. It may be just what you are looking for.

The guitar came today and guess what? They shipped me the wrong guitar!!! They shipped a Guild Bluesbird (Les Paul Lookalike) instead. It's beautiful, but not what I want. I have it all packed up, they emailed me a prepaid return label and UPS will pick it up in the morning. They are sorry and already refunded my card, because they don't have any more in stock. So now, I'm trying to get that same price from others and waiting for emails to see if anyone can match that price. After buying over 100 guitars, this is the 1st time anything like this has happened to me! Kinda disappointed.

Well that's a bummer.  I'm sure you'll find one somewhere, maybe even for a better price.  Did you try Sweetwater?  Pretty sure they have them, and they can usually beat any price I've asked about.

Sweetwater has 2 and gave me a slightly better price, but with tax it's about $50 more. Not bad and I'll probably go for that, but 1st I'm going to call a little music shop about 10 miles away and see if they have one. Now that the enthusiasm has worn off a bit, I'm wondering if I should buy a Fender Jaguar (old Style) or a Mapleglo Ric 330 instead.

Wait, what? Over 100. Not even 100 but over?! My two acoustics, Fender Strat and $70 Kmart electric (Hondo?) seem like a lot for me. :)

I figure you don't still own all these do ya? It's like owning a 100 cumulatively but not all at the same time, correct? I hope you have 'em insured too. You must be a heckuva player Nurk.

cheers

That stinks. Not with guitars but I've known the disappointment of opening a package and finding the wrong item within, especially when you've been really lookin' forward to it. Hope you find the one you want.

cheers

^  I still have practically all the guitars I bought over the years (over 100 in house). I did sell about 3-4 back in the 70's when times weren't so good. I am still kicking myself in the ass for selling those, 1 of which was a 1967 orange stain Gretsch Tennessean with Bigsby and gold plated hardware like Neil Young's. And I still have my 3 sets of drums and plenty of amps.

Whoa! You could give TPATH a run for their money. Drums too? That's impressive, are you more of a Ringo style drummer or more of a frenetic, crazy fill type o' guy? More Stan or Steve? Or Bonham?

Speaking of new guitar day, I bought one yesterday.  I had been on the lookout for one of the 50th Anniversary 1961 Epiphone Casino limited edition guitars.  They made 1,961 of them back in 2011.  Anyway, one floated by yesterday and I ended up with it.  It needs a setup, but so far I think I prefer it over the IBJL Casino that I have.  This one seems to have a slightly beefier neck, and a brighter tone unplugged and plugged, plus it has a whammy.  I'll probably sell the IBJL.  It's a fine guitar, I just don't need 2 Casinos.

These Anniversary models had the original headstock nameplate.  That disappeared pretty quickly, probably by the 2nd year.  Dot markers instead of parallelograms, and the USA made Gibson P-90 pickups. We'll see when I get a setup done on it, but it seems like a keeper.

I bought a new guitar today. I got the cherry Gibson Double Cut Jr. I checked Sweetwater 1st and they say it's no longer available. Maybe the $539 price tag was a misprint!!! They now have a black one, but priced at $799. So I went to American Music Supply and they had all colors in stock for $549 with free 1 day shipping, so I ordered the "Worn Cherry". It should be here tomorrow, Friday 2/21/20.

Same thing another one of my friends said.  He wants it in TV  Yellow.  I went for the blue one, just for something different.

I do keep a Telecaster setup in 5 string, open G.  Actually, it's a Custom Esquire from the 80's in candy apple red.  Great for Stones songs, and Black Crowes.
