Question of the day 6/18/19

Recommended Posts

Alan Parsons & Eric Woolfson wrote and recorded a song named "Ammonia Avenue" and released it on an LP of the same title in 1984. Alan Parsons claims that Elton John stole the song and released it as "Yellow Brick Road". The problem is Elton released "YBR" in 1973 and Alan released "AA" in 1984, 11 years later. Maybe Alan never got around to releasing the song til many years after he wrote it,  just as The Beatles did with "The One After 909", written as kids before The Beatles and not released til years later on their last released LP "Let It Be".  But Alan Parsons is convinced Elton stole the song. Here's an audio of the song "Ammonia Avenue", what do you think????

For me there is no similarity whatsoever.  They do both have piano in them, but the song in no way evokes Elton John's tune.  Chord progression, melody, nothing is the same.

At least with the George Harrison case (My Sweet Lord - He's So Fine) there was a common melody on the punch line and chord progression.
