Mike Campbell's guitar saved my sanity this past year. I owe that man a lot as well as Tom.

Still having a hard time shaking off his death.  It seems to hurt worse now.

It's not like I was ever going to meet him, but I just liked knowing that his spirit was alive somewhere out there, working away in his studio or getting ready for a tour, or coming down after a show, pacing around or whatever.. It's such a shame he's not around anymore. Also, he was one of the last of the dying old-school breed and every time one of those ones dies, the world becomes a slightly less interesting place (in my mind)

I know exactly what you are saying.  I felt better knowing he was alive.

I grew up with him.  He's a few years older than me, and I know what you mean about the old timers dying out.  They're irreplaceable.

Tom, thank you for the music and the joy of seeing you and the band live 11 times. 11 of the best nights of my life. From first seeing the mtv video for MJLD back in 94 and through the following 23 years the music has sustained me on bad days, elevated me higher on good days and after the TV series Happy Days really deepened my love of and fascination with America. Thanks to Tom and the band I got to New York..LA..Red Rocks..Tampa, West Palm Beach and many other stop offs along the way..it was the band and Tom who gave me the impetus to travel in America...and the best decision I ever made was to book my ticket to the Marquee circus tent in Cork in June 2012 after being bowled over by my first experience of the band live in Dublin earlier that night. Cork in 2012..a small venue where I got there early to squeeze up to the sixth row..I got the nod and smile from Tom when he came on stage..I'll never forget it. Rest easy Tom and thank you for the music. It will live on in my heart always. Thoughts and prayers for Toms family and those who knew him best. Words aren't enough...I'm devastated.

To the Petty family and band members my sincere condolences. My prayers are with you. Wade Catterall.

I wondered to about his shaking.  I first noticed at the super bowl half time show many years ago ( and I mentioned it way back then , his chording hand shook visibly ).   Then I saw a clip of his speech for music cares from Feb.  In the close ups he had several face and mouth twitches.  Someone on another site I go to mentioned Parkinson's.  I guess we'll find out soon.  Does anyone know how he broke his hip ?

I'm well aware that this is an older post, but I know a thing or two about Parkinson's Disease. Based on what I've seen, I wouldn't think it was PD. The tremour associated with Parkinson's Disease is actually a resting tremour, which disappears with voluntary movement. I also didn't notice any rigidity or slowness of movement, nor any sign of a Parkinsonian gait. Postural instability - I'm not certain on that. I would think that if anything, he had a benign essential tremour.

I'm not a neurologist, though, so take this with a grain of salt. Or a few dozen of them.

I think Tom's health was declining for a while, and possibly had other medical conditions than the ones that was announced.     Also, in a previous post, I too noticed the "shaking" and "twitching" on that Music Cares video - but perhaps that also could have been caused by some of the meds he was taking....just a thought.

Just watched that video.  You're right.  I never noticed that in any of the last tour videos.

I got the impression from that speech that he knew at some level within himself that he may not have long to live.  He seemed in awe of his own life and how incredible it had turned out.

I was just reading an article in a magazine where Tom was interviewed about 10 years ago and explained when he was younger, he he had infinite time and said he wouldn't have done as many time consuming things that he did when he was younger - but as he got older, he said he felt he wasn't going to live that long and wanted to get the most things done that he could.  He said this when he was 55 years old...seems like he had a bucket list of things he did and accomplished so many things in the last 10 years.    I felt sad when I read that article.
