I'm not a fan of unions. I really don't think police and firefighters should be able to strike. On the other hand I do think they should be paid very well. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

We have a Police strike imminent here ,and i don`t think they should be able to .Police officers and Firefighters know what the pay is like before they join so if they don`t like it they shouldn`t join , however I do think they should be payed well

No, I don't think they should. But yes, they should have fair wages. I can't even imagine the anarchy that would take place if that happened. Especially in big cities.

The starting salary for an LAPD officer right out of high school is about $54,000 a year. I know because my cousin completed the academy last year and that's what she's making, plus they're paying for her to go to school and get a degree. I say that's pretty damn good.

My brother was a cop, technically working for the state of CA. He got paid very well unless the state had a budget impasse. He wouldn't get checks for months if the politics were bad in Sacto...

I think the Firefighters around here make $75,000 starting out. But the cost of living is high in No. CA.

I don't think they should strike.

I don't think they should be able to strike. I don't think public transportation people, waste management or nurses and doctors should strike either. I'm with Carol, I HATE unions. Useless.

Ryan, you're right. 54K in Southern CA is not alot.

Y'know what gets me....a few years ago some ass gave some pills to my daughter.

When I called the police and said hey lets go over to this guy's house and get this guy, I was told they don't do things like that. That my daughter would have to testify and that they just don't catch drug dealers that way.

Oh well....ever since then I no longer support the local dare program..its all a farce. Another crooked way to make them look like they're doing something to protect us. They would rather sit in their cars and charge ya $50 for not having a seat belt on. No chance of getting shot at when you bust people for not buckling up. This is the America they don't and won't teach ya about in school.

While a union supporter, I don't think public service in critical areas should strike. I guess I was kinda dumb in thinking they could not. My memory serves that teachers in some state were set to strike but the governor called something so they could not. Does anyone remember something about this in the years back? I thought the feds or states could prohibit strikes at times.
