Question of the day 9/3/13

Recommended Posts

We cooked and ate...went fishing and we caught 9 spotted seatrout, 2 summer trout, and a triple-tail that were "keeper" size. Visited friends and attended my husband's 36th year (they forgot and skipped 35th) class reunion. It was okay.

It was nice! On Friday, our daughter officially earned her Master's in Education, and kicked serious academic butt in her final project and presentation...PERFECT score!!! :003: On top of that, the A's are now tied for first in the American League West!

Sounds like times are tip-top in Toni-land! :041:

fantastic! Camping trip with my college friends that I hardly ever get to see anymore, except for Labor Day. Good friends, good food, good drinks, (mostly) good weather. Just that I'm covered in bug bites. We've taken to calling this camping spot "Chigger Lake" - and we're going somewhere else next year.

It's a 3 day weekend marking the end of summer, and return to school for the kids. But officially.............

Labor Day in the United States is a holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September. It is a celebration of the American labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of their country.

Labor Day was promoted by the Central Labor Union and the Knights of Labor, who organized the first parade in New York City. After the Haymarket Massacre, US President Grover Cleveland feared that commemorating Labor Day on May 1 could become an opportunity to commemorate the affair. Thus, in 1887, it was established as an official holiday in September to support the Labor Day that the Knights favored.

The equivalent holiday in Canada, Labour Day, is also celebrated on the first Monday of September. In many other countries (more than 80 worldwide), "Labour Day" is synonymous with, or linked with, International Workers' Day, which occurs on May 1st.

It is seen as the end of summer. Makes me think of the "Boys of Summer" with Don Henley and our favorite guitar genius (MC)!! Once upon a time, it signified the date after which white paints and shoes could not be worn, haha!! The rules no longer apply. The folks who work for the state or federal governments get a holiday.....other folks may or may not.......
