SingsInFrench 262 Report post Posted May 1, 2013 No, but I think there may be one downtown I'll have to check out.
TomFest 576 Report post Posted May 1, 2013 Yes, my uncle used to own one back in the 60's. We'd go there occasionally, but it wasn't very close by us.

nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted May 1, 2013 Sure Beth. MikeyT, soda shops sold milk shakes, banana splits, ice cream cones, candy, cherry phosphates and all sorts of ice cream favorites. Todays shops are usually decorated in the 50's style with checkered floors and spinning orange colored leather stools at the counter.
Magnolia 171 Report post Posted May 2, 2013 No, not really. Even though I'm old, the ones I have been to are the "Ye Olde" variety. Trying to be an old soda shop! My dad worked in a real one as a teenager. Of course, he's now 88 years old! LOL
Amber 70 Report post Posted May 2, 2013 Yes we had them at Kress's and McCroyery's two old 5 and dime stores. My brother and I used to mow yards to get money for the movies and the soda shop. I loved the orange crush and grilled cheese sandwiches, my brother always went for the bannana split. It was a wonderful time in American history. Of course, we didn't know they were segregated since we had no idea they did not allow people of other races there. Then the world changed and the dime store soda fountains all disappeared at once. Mikeyt 136 Report post Posted May 2, 2013 Sounds good. We should franchise in the UK - if we can get enough sun :-) All would be welcome.
GoldenRose 18 Report post Posted May 2, 2013 I think I saw one of those old-fashioned American style soda places in a village near me. It was very expensive so I didn't go in, even though I'd have liked to.
agirl 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2013 Yes, back in the 60s there was one right by the bus stop we used after school. We'd always stop in there. There was also one downtown that we hit after concerts. loved it! They even had the little jukeboxes in each booth that never worked.
kelly 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2013 no. I live in NJ - so the place to be has always been the diner!
