What do you think of the skyrocketing prices at the grocery stores and what should be done about it?

I'm growing lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, basil, carrots and radishes in the back yard.

I grow so many of my own veggies and fruits right here on our property. I start heirloom varieties and they all just taste so good!! Asparagus just coming now....we have black raspberries, currants, strawberries....herbs...it goes on and on

Also, I'm a vegetarian - that keeps the grocery bills down.

I shop at the less expensive and more local markets. I agree that prices are out of this world at big supermarkets. Like Rick said, all we can really do is shop smarter. If we don't pay those prices, maybe they'll come down.

All our fresh stuff comes from the market but even that's quite expensive. Still, it's better than the supermarket. I think trying not to buy inessential stuff (or treats!) helps.

Do you have ALDI? Not sure where in the US they have stores. Its awesome - very inexpensive compared to the big name grocery stores. And the way they keep the cost low on produce is to buy it locally, so its fresh and local which I love. Some of their stuff, like cereal and crackers and bread I like better than name brand stuff.

^ Sounds like stores we have out here called Trader Joe's. I shop there a lot.
