TomFest 576 Report post Posted January 26, 2013 We had our house broken into many years ago at our first home, and many years before that I had my car broken into and stereo taken. I've never been robbed in person though.
Patty Petty 9 Report post Posted January 26, 2013 I was robbed in the first apartment I lived in. I also had my car broken into when I worked in Atlantic City. Like Tomfest, they stole my 10 disc cd player and all the cd's in there, some money I had in the console, which wasn't much, maybe a few bucks that I used for tolls, and a cell phone that I had in the glove compartment. Getting robbed totally sucks. You feel so violated.

Patty Petty 9 Report post Posted January 26, 2013 I also want to add something else. My mother had a ring made for me for my birthday one year, I was about 26. It had diamonds from my grandmother's wedding band, and my mother's wedding band (my dad had another ring made for her because as she aged her fingers sort of webbed and she couldn't get her ring all the way down on her finger). It was a gorgeous ring and people were always complimenting me on it. I was working in the casino and before I went back on the casino floor from a break, I went to the ladies room. Stupid me, I took my ring off to wash my hands. I went back up on the floor, I was sitting box on a craps game and we had to hold our hands together out in front of us. It was then, I looked down at my hand, realized the ring was gone! I felt sick to my stomach! I told the floor supervisor on the game what happened and he tapped me out so I could run back downstairs and get it. This was a total time lapse of maybe 8 minutes. The ring was gone! The only person in there was a cleaning lady and I asked her about it, if she had seen anyone come in, etc... She was kinda not so nice about and said no. I then raced over to Lost and found, nope, no one turned it in either. For a couple weeks, I kept checking at Lost and Found. I was so literally sick over this. Losing it is one thing, but to have it been picked up by a fellow employee REALLY sickened me. I was heartsick at having to tell my mother. I finally did though. I thought she'd be mad as hell. But you know what she said to me? "Patty, it's a material thing! Material things aren't what's important in this world." She was worried I was going to tell her there was something wrong with me and was quite relieved when that wasn't the case. I know she was right but sometimes I still think about that ring, wishing I had it back.

Liberty 191 Report post Posted January 27, 2013 Our business (a pizza place) was broken into on Christmas (eve or day?) when I was 8 or 9... We were not open, thankfully, so no one was there.
SingsInFrench 262 Report post Posted January 27, 2013 I've had things stolen from my home by a boyfriend's daughter and her friends (they were caught, confessed, and paid restitution - but I never got the things back, including my diamond engagement/wedding band), but I've never been robbed. Softanimal 7 Report post Posted January 27, 2013 I had a bag on my carrier as two guys on a motor cycle came up from behind and snatched it. From that day on I have learned always to put the handles on the bag over my saddle before taking off!
Echosoftom 3 Report post Posted January 27, 2013 Yes, I've had my house broken into once years ago when I lived in Long Beach. And me and 2 of my sisters were robbed at gunpoint in a record store when we were teens. I was about 13. They caught the guys about two weeks later and apparently we were lucky. They robbed a liquor store a week after our incident and they shot and killed the owner.
Patty Petty 9 Report post Posted January 29, 2013 Gosh, Sharon! How scary! Yes, you two certainly were lucky. I'm glad they caught that guy.
Mikeyt 136 Report post Posted January 30, 2013 Sure is painful. I rented my house out while I worked in Africa. They took the lot, including carpets and curtains. Turned out he was an armed robber. Caught him but never got it all back. The curtains and carpets had been re-cut to suit his new home. Reach for the emoticons ...!
