Question of the day 1/15/13

Recommended Posts

I love “The Last DJ” – why?

The lyrics are so powerful. Our society is losing the lone voice that is different/unique. It’s a voice that isn’t afraid of compromise. It’s a voice that calls us out and says what the hell is happening here and we can be better. It’s a voice that says I don’t have to want the same things you do and that money isn’t everything. It’s a voice that says I don’t need to look or sound like you – I’m okay being me.

We are losing that lone distinctive renegade voice in corporations and in politics. We lost that lone voice to Clear Channel stations and to network television. We lost that voice to chain retail stores and restaurant chains. Kids now-a-days will never know what it feels like to walk into the neighborhood record store – to smell the incense and to feel the smoothness of vinyl in their hand, to see it spinning round and round, to hear a song jump when a patch of dust gets in the way.

Our society seems to be more and more about conformity. I see it everyday in the business world. Conformity earns promotions and bonuses. And lone voices just aren’t big news and they don’t get much airplay, they are shut down by the powers of conformity.

To me being homogeneous is over-rated and it kills creativity and that is why I love that song. Tom said it so much better than I could ever - making it personal, making it about the lone DJ, when it's really about our society, about conformity being rewarded more than creativity.

^Well said!! So glad our album is being released on vinyl. It's the way it's meant to be heard!!

My favorite song?? So many, but I'm going to pick "American Girl." I love listening to that song, and I LOVE playing that song live, Rickenbacker in hand.

Jeesh this one is so hard! So many of the songs are just so perfect. That's why

we love them!

I think I'll go with American Girl too only because it's the first song I knew and loved

by TPATH back in the day.

Sheila - loved reading your thoughts!

^^Sheila -- no firm date yet, but it's coming in February. The name of the band is Athanor and the album is called "Flashback" (even in my 60s, I can't resist drug references). Our label is Guerssen Records. We have the cover art and an amazing four-page insert, but I can't share it with anyone until the album's released. That all goes to the printer tomorrow. But do a little Googling with the band name, and you'll find all sorts of stuff about us. Of note are a couple of pieces at somewherethereismusic.com, which also has three of our songs on it.

It changes based on my moods and where my head is at the time....been listening to "Crawling Back To You" for some reason lately. But I do love those guitar riffs in Good Enough......
