nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted September 17, 2012 I've asked this question before, but I'm gonna give it a twist today. The original question was "have you ever been on stage before". Today's question is how did you handle being on stage and how did you prepare for it?
SingsInFrench 262 Report post Posted September 17, 2012 In plays, I rehearsed a lot. Before the performance, we would do exercises to loosen us up and get our juices flowing. While waiting to go onstage, I would do slow, deep breathing to calm myself down. Once I got onstage, everything fell into place, and it went really well. In dance performances, we would do stretches beforehand. I was never nervous about those performances. In choir, we would do vocal warm-ups before a concert. Again, I wasn't nervous for these performances. I never had to sing a solo, so there was no pressure.
TomFest 576 Report post Posted September 17, 2012 Just started playing music for small parties when we were in high school, and then larger parties, and then eventually, in bars. But I still to this day get nervous before a gig. It goes away by the time the first song is over. I think plenty of big stars are the same way. They never get over the nerves before a show. WildflowerNJ 136 Report post Posted September 17, 2012 When I was in that play in Kindegarden...I had no idea of fright, lol. Ballet Recitals were another thing....it was okay but I knew I would never be a ballerina, lol!! Half times for football games, pep rallies, parades as a Varsity Twirler in high school were cool.....I loved my boots
Rick 156 Report post Posted September 17, 2012 Being on stage is very natural to me. Typical of me, I hate and love being the center of attention.
agirl 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2012 (edited) I've been on stage in plays. I would usually just go over lines to myself and try to concentrate. I'm fine as long as I don't know anyone in the audience. If I do I get really nervous. For some reason though it's easier than standing in front of a room full of people and doing a report. That is torture for me. Edited September 17, 2012 by agirl
LizzieB 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2012 I didn't mind being on stage for a play, as long as I had my part memorized. I haven't been in a play for years. I hated public speaking until about 10 years ago, but now I have no issues with that. In modern dance in college, I totally froze and forgot the dance my partner and I made up. I had to keep looking at her for the next step. The teacher gave me a B anyway, what a kind soul.
Amber 70 Report post Posted September 18, 2012 I loved it as a child. Became more self-conscious as I got older. I speak in front of people now, but still shake a little inside. If I have time to think about it, I get more nervous.
Echosoftom 3 Report post Posted September 18, 2012 I had terrible stage fright. If I was singing in a group like with my church choir I was fine. But if I had to do a solo it wore my nerves down. I think I was afraid I'd mess up the words or not hit a note. So I'd stand in the mirror for hours and practice.
