nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted September 6, 2012 Would you like to see a variety show on TV every Sunday night like the old Ed Sullivan show?
WildflowerNJ 136 Report post Posted September 6, 2012 That would be nice to have again. But my life has changed in that I do not watch too much tv anymore. It is just not that important in our lives now... I am remembering that first time The Beatles came on.....my Mom was watching, too. They flashed the names under them as they were singing. Paul won my heart and still has it
nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted September 6, 2012 I said yes, watching dancing bears is better than any reality show!!
SingsInFrench 262 Report post Posted September 6, 2012 I don't watch prime-time TV except for Breaking Bad on Sunday night. It really wouldn't matter to me. But if a variety show knocks some reality shows off TV, it would be a good thing for everyone.
DCAHNM 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2012 Only if they got a host I like. I bet Neil Patrick Harris would be great!
TomFest 576 Report post Posted September 6, 2012 Umm.....no. The musical guests might be interesting, but spinning plates and juggling clowns are a thing of the past. I have some of the old Sullivan shows and parts are pretty much embarrassing.
Rick 156 Report post Posted September 6, 2012 I voted no. I think the world has changed sufficiently that the format is pretty much obsolete. We "kids" had to suffer through our parents' favorites just so we could see ours. Now I think I'm so old that the show wouldn't even feature my favorites!!! nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted September 6, 2012 LOL, I remember suffering through SoffieTucker, Gordon and Shiela McRea and countless acts just to get to the Beatles, Stones, Byrds, Kinks and countless other 60's rock groups. But that was the fun part that is gone today. New groups of today have nowhere to go, unless they can get on a reality show judged by millionaire stars that couldn't care less, cuz they are has beens and need a paycheck to keep their LA homes!!!!! I'd rather perform on an Ed Sullivan type show for scale or free, than on a reality show!!
Amber 70 Report post Posted September 6, 2012 Anything would be better than the reality shows they have on now. We are thinking about dropping cable. There isn't much use in paying for something we do not watch.

bm29759 80 Report post Posted September 6, 2012 I said no 'cause we don't watch much tv ^^ I highly suggest dropping cable, we dropped it last fall and have not missed it one bit.
agirl 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2012 Yes. I loved those shows. They always had acts you would have never seen otherwise. Remember Topio Gigigo [sp?]?
weird monkey 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2012 I said no 'cause we don't watch much tv ^^ I highly suggest dropping cable, we dropped it last fall and have not missed it one bit. I canceled my satellite subscription, because I figure the 6 or so channels I can get from an aerial were enough, mainly PBS. About 3 weeks later I realized I hadn't even turned the tv on at all. I will be hooking it up again today, because my bf wants to see some convention coverage. Dunno how much of that there will be on broadcast tv though. I thought the Carol Burnette Show was the best, just a serendipitous occurrence of good writers, actors, and guests.
WildflowerNJ 136 Report post Posted September 6, 2012 ^ I have never had cable. Never ever....tv is just not that important to me.
Patty Petty 9 Report post Posted September 6, 2012 Hmmm, I voted yes. I agree with Susan. If it knocks some of the stupid reality shows off the air, why not?
Marion 1,411 Report post Posted September 7, 2012 If a variety show isn't a reality show then what is it? Apart from being a judged show America's Got Talent has all of that stuff. I do miss Carol Burnette. I like to watch tv in the evenings. I'm too tired from working all day to do much else.
Echosoftom 3 Report post Posted September 7, 2012 Sorry not today. Those type of shows worked back then because there was so much great talent. I don't know if I'd want to see half the crap I see and hear around today.
LizzieB 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2012 I said no because I just don't watch much TV.
