nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted March 20, 2012 Since the start of the month, it has been illegal to die in Falciano del Massico, a village of 3,700 people some 30 miles from Naples in southern Italy. Mayor Giulio Cesare Fava issued the tongue-in-cheek decree because the village has no cemetery and it is feuding with a nearby town that has one — creating a logistical problem about what to do with the deceased. The mayor told newspapers that villagers are content. “The ordinance has brought happiness,” he was quoted as saying. “Unfortunately, two elderly citizens disobeyed.”
TomFest 576 Report post Posted March 20, 2012 That's taking civil disobedience to a new level.
nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted March 20, 2012 I thought this was halarious and a good idea. Our village is small, less than 1,000 people, and we are all Italians and related!!!! Our cemetery is on the top of the hill in Poland Township, not in the village. The township recently was offered $140K off the bat plus 35% of future profits from two oil companies to use that land for fracking!! The township, like most communities around the country has no money and is thinking about it. But they haven't made a decision yet, cuz people are pissed off and the elected officials might not get re-elected next time around if the agree to it. When I bought my 2 lots or plots, it was understood that I owned that land and the mineral rights below it, so how can the township over rule that? We are still fighting over that. Like I said, we are small and Italian, so I'm going to email the above story to my cousin (the mayor) and see if we can have a law that it's illegal to die in our village.......lol. Beamish 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2012 Nurk, I'm only familiar with "fracking" as used on Battlestar Galactica, which brings a very unwholesome mental image to mind. What does it actually mean?
TomFest 576 Report post Posted March 20, 2012 Fracking is a method of injecting water, chemicals, and sand deep into the ground under high pressure for the purpose of extracting natural gas deposits that would be otherwise unavailable. The downside is that it has been shown to poison the groundwater, and allegedly cause earthquakes. Kind of a steep downside.
nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted March 20, 2012 Due to fracking in other areas of the county, we had 10 earthquakes in the county the past year with the top one being 4.0. That is not acceptable in eastern Ohio.
wild1forever 152 Report post Posted March 21, 2012 ^ I've read about the increased earthquakes due to fracking. That is just awful! On the other hand, I love the new law against dying. :icon_laugh:
