Question of the day 3/17/12

"Late For the Sky" by Jackson Browne

Means a time in my life I will never ever forget. My first true love....days and night at the beach....watching him surf. Going with him on a Mexican adventure to warmer waves and weather (the silver bangle bracelet I wear every day)....4 months camping out, meeting surfers and people from all over. I played this 8 track over and over in Ray's little red Toyota truck (our "home" on that Punta Mita surf break). Finally, some surfers who were from CA came over and we started talking about Jackson's music. They asked if I ever had seen him play, I said no. They had just seen him in Anaheim and he rocked them out!

I remember Linda (her and her husband were from Canada) teaching me how to wash clothes on the rocks by the stream. I have my old letters I wrote to my sister and Dad during this time....to read them is to be back there....all over again.

Hearing this song can make me cry....and it can make me laugh......but it always makes me remember

"No Rain" by Blind Melon. Seems like that song was stuck in my head every morning for like the first two months of college. It also takes me back to the same time when I was dating the guitarist from the local band. The bassist threw a party at his house. His parents were out of town. The band played on the back patio. Ryan (the bassist) and his brother would have gotten away with throwing a party, but when their folks got back, they knew something had happened because their house was TOO clean! lol

"Burning Ring Of Fire" by Johnny Cash always reminds me of being a child. It's the first radio song I remember, and I thought it was literal, lol. Johnny Cash reminds me of my own father for some reason, so I've always felt an affinity to him, as if I knew him.

A Whiter Shade of Pale reminds me of my first summer in Europe. It was played all summer long and I'll never forget that summer. A few years later I was in Belgium as an exchange student and Tapestry by Carole King was the album of the summer. It's amazing how a song or songs can bring back past memories as if it was yesterday. It's what I love about music!
