nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted March 7, 2012 Why do you think the government isn't bailing out the Postal Service?
Magnolia 171 Report post Posted March 7, 2012 I don't know anything about this. I know we have a postal worker here at the Farm, maybe she can shed some light on the subject!
TomFest 576 Report post Posted March 7, 2012 I don't think "bailing out" is the right term. The Postal Service as it exists now, is not solvent, and it is predicted that they will continue to lose money at an ever increasing rate. They need substantial change. Elimination of Saturday delivery is something they've said they want to do, and it requires congressional approval. I wouldn't call that a bail-out, and I don't think throwing money at the USPS will solve anything. Too much competition from Fedex, UPS, and eCommerce in general has cut revenues way down. Expenses need to follow. They are also being required by congress to pre-fund their employee pension programs something like 75 years into the future? And this is from the same congress that takes our Social Security money and spends it any way they feel like. What is the saying about people living in glass houses not throwing stones? agirl 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2012 I really don't know much about this. I did read that congress passed some laws several years ago that caused the current problems. Big shock.
