Question of the day 1/2/12

Recommended Posts

Considering who is in the Hall, I think there are several that should also be there.

Heart

Chicago

Rush

Kiss

Moody Blues

Zombies

The Monkees

Yes, The Monkees. I know they take a lot of heat for being the "pre-fab 4", but obviously they sang everything, and by the time of their 3rd album (which went to #1), they were writing and playing most of the songs. And hey, most other bands also used studio musicians in those days. You think the Beach Boys played their instruments on their records? No way. That was a collection of great studio musicians in Los Angeles known as "The Wrecking Crew".

The Monkees should be in!!!

I sure wish I could subtract. 1988??

1. Traveling Wilburys

2. Nirvana (1st single was in 1988)

3. The E Street Band

4. The Zombies

5. Cheap Trick

The Wrecking Crew is a great choice!!

A year ago, I would have agreed with The Monkees. They've always been my guiltiest pleasure on record. But this summer I saw them live and without question, IMHO, it was the worst live concert I've ever seen. They were backed by eight very talented musicians who covered for a shocking lack of talent.

I think Bill Clinton should be in the rock & roll hall of fame for his excellent campaign song choice that directly affected Fleetwood Mac getting back together in the 90's.

Rick - you're right in that the current product called The Monkees is a disaster. They're mostly clowning their way through a show. But I can't hold that against their inclusion in the R&R HOF, because of all those great songs they had back in 60's. Mike Nesmith was arguably the most talented, and he won't go near this "reunion" thing.

I believe they outsold the Stones and Beatles combined, in 1967 - and that was going against a little record called Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. A pretty decent effort by the fabs. FREE THE MONKEES!!!! :003:
