In my current situation, (married with kiddos), I would pick 1st shift. When I was a young adult, living with my parents, I loved 2nd shift! My folks would be asleep by the time I got home and would be gone by the time I woke up each morning. It ruled!

7 AM to 3 PM is perfect. I used to work 7 AM to 4 PM. I got so much done before everyone else started straggling in around 9:00, and leaving at 4 allowed me to spend an entire evening with my family.

7-3 becuase that is what the majority of the world does and everything evolves around it. I worked 3-11 for 8 years or more and never got to do anything with friends, since I was always at work. Had to work every other weekend too. If i could work a couple of days a week on the 3-11 shift, it wouldn't be bad. Hate night shift!! my body and mind never could adjust.

Years ago I worked the 3pm-11pm shift, could get things done in the morning before work and really liked it. I did work a few times 11-7 shift and got so sick to my stomach by 3 or 4am, I eventually went back to 3-11. Later back in the late 90's I also worked the 9-5 shift for the dentist and got used to it but still loved the 3-11 better.
