WildflowerNJ 136 Report post Posted August 15, 2011 Very complex question, Nurk....having money to do the things that you want to do can bring happiness...but there are so many people who have alot of money who will never be happy. They feel empty inside for whatever reason. I think having a passion (love) for something in life, giving back...and then being able to enjoy that, that brings true happiness. Everyone's idea of "happiness" is different, I think. I will say, I am comfortable with having the money there....but that in it's self will not make some people happy.... Amber 70 Report post Posted August 15, 2011 Sure. Considering I am already pretty happy...I don't think being rich would hurt for sure! I know there are so many things I could do with the money to help others, it would have to be a blast!
SingsInFrench 262 Report post Posted August 15, 2011 The quality of my life would improve greatly with more money. I wouldn't have to be rich to be happy though. I am happy now, and I keep my needs very simple, but I could do much more for myself and my dad and children if I was rich.
Magnolia 171 Report post Posted August 15, 2011 Oh hell yes! The word here would be "happier" though. I'm happy now. But would LOVE to be able to travel when and where I want to. And to be able to help people out that need it.
emmie 2 Report post Posted August 15, 2011 It would definitely make me very happy. I am very unhappy now and have been for years. Money would enable me to leave my husband and move to somewhere more suited to my wishes.
Rick 156 Report post Posted August 15, 2011 Can't remember the exact quote, so I'll have to paraphrase Bruce Springsteen, who once said the best thing about having money is that you don't have to worry about paying the bills anymore. I'd like to have enough money so I wouldn't have those worries.
weird monkey 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2011 Yes. Especially if the alternative is what my circumstances are now. Not that I would live all that lavishly, but I wouldn't have to worry about ever needing medical care, I could buy clothes, art supplies stuff like that. And I would give a lot of it to charity, that would make me happy, I haven't been able to do that for a long time (unless one includes spending at thrift stores. lol) I would travel, though. I'd like to see the world like Michael Palin does on his travel shows. Add all that to the fact that I am not exactly unhappy now, just a bit stymied. I am very sorry you are in an unhappy marriage (((Emmie))). It is so hard to let go, I should have left mine long before it ended, too. Bennie, I agree with you and Bruce. My bills are paid, so maybe I am rich after all? Last month I had to stretch $70 over 10 days (including gas), but my bills were paid up, and I had enough food, so I wasn't complaining. I heard an interesting fact the other day. Nearly 15% of the people in this country have received government aid to buy food this year (food stamps). That boggles my mind. AndreaM 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2011 I'm with most of the above: Happy-er. Despite a tremendous amount of crap that's happened in my life, I'm amazingly well-adjusted. I have definite quirks, to be sure, but I don't think I'm slowly trying to kill myself like a lot of people around me. But money is definitely a big issue right now, bigger than it's ever been, because my brother needs it from me RIGHT NOW for his half of the house. I'm having to reassess a Home Equity Credit Line I took out to fix up this place, and since that won't be enough, I also have to raid my retirement savings. I just want him paid and done with so hubby and I can move on and dig ourselves out of this hole. There hasn't been a falling out over this, because he thinks he's being 'nice' about it, and I refuse to get into arguments, but it's not like we're that close, anyway. So, yes, lol! Beamish 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2011 Of course it would! Even if it didn't make me happy, at least then I could afford the therapy to get over that, lol! Whoever said that love of money is the root of all evil never had to pay dental bills.
weird monkey 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2011 :003: maybe the love of having teeth in your head is the root of all evil!
