nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted July 19, 2011 Nope, that would be George's 3rd Gretsch. After the Duo Jet, that he used forever, he switched to a double cutaway Gretsch Country Gentleman. He used that til it fell off the back of a van on the way to a show and was smashed to pieces beyond repair. Then got a Gretsch single cutaway Tenneseean model which you see in this video, it was wine colored. His Country Gent was dark walnut colored and usually showed up black on the old tv's. His Duo Jet had a black front with woodgrain sides and back, which he had painted all black after John painted his '59 RIC 325 mapleglo to all black and had a Bigsby "B-5" tailpiece installed at Huff's (I think that's the name) music store in Liverpool. nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted July 19, 2011 I love Gretsch guitars and have some as does my brother and we both met Fred Gretsch a couple years ago. What pisses me off is that Gretsch finally got permission to release a Harrison Duo Jet from Olivia and made it exactly like Georges original with all the dents, scratches, and chip marks and then only release a few for $20K!!!!! AND, There is no signature anywhere. For 20K I want it new, no dings and scratches and with a signature. This new model that lists for $5K seems to be like a new shinny guitar, but why put a small signature on the truss rod cover? Why didn't they put it big on the pickguard like they did the Chet Atkins series??? BTW, I wouldn't buy it at 30% off like the above site has, I'm sure you can get it most places for 35% off and most likely 40% off. happy hunting!! nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted July 19, 2011 Normandi, here's a video of the duo jet back in the Cavern Club days. George played it til the end, especially on his album "Cloud Nine", co produced by Jeff Lynne back in 1988. Check the LP cover to see the guitar and search songs from that LP to see more.
