nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted July 9, 2011 Derek Jeter of the NY Yankees singled in the 1st inning for his 2,999th hit and in his 2nd at bat hit a home run for his 3,000th hit. Jeter is only the 28th player in history to get 3,000 hits in his career and the 1st Yankee to ever get 3,000 hits. Congrats Derek!!!!!!!!!

wild1forever 152 Report post Posted July 10, 2011 ^ I agree, how awesome is that? I used to despise Derek Jeter, but have really grown to respect him over the years. Congrats to him!

TomFest 576 Report post Posted July 11, 2011 What is interesting about this is the fact that no other Yankee in their long, storied history, has ever reached the 3,000 hit milestone. Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Berra, Mantle.....on and on. I'm kind of a Yankee hater, but I do have a lot of respect for Derek Jeter. Great player.
Mudcrutch 285 Report post Posted July 11, 2011 Boggs did. He was a Yankee briefly, although not a career Yankee.
nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted July 11, 2011 True Ryan, but he didn't get that 3,000th hit as a Yankee.
