nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted July 4, 2011 As most of you know, my back-up fridge went bad and I went and bought a new one yesterday that will be delivered Thursday. I normally have a big cookout on the 4th of July, but everyone has other plans this year, so I was just gonna straighten up the cellar for Thursday and make room to haul the old fridge away and bring the 1 from the kitchen to the cellar for a back-up. While clearing a path to the doorway, I went into my upright freezer to get something and that took a shit!!!! It's completely loaded with food, so now I have unloaded it and put the food in 6 huge coolers and went out and bought 90 pounds of ice. I'll have to take all that to my moms later, she has an upright freezer too, but didn't have anything in it so she unplugged it. Now I have to wait til it gets cold before the move. A few things did defrost and have to be cooked today, like ribs and some steaks. Thank God, most items are still frozen, but I did have to throw away a couple pounds of fish, shrimp scampi, about 12 hamburgers, 8 sirloin pepper steaks and 57 meatballs and some beef veggie soup. We just cooked about 20 pounds of food a couple days ago when that fridge went bad and sent care packages to all the relatives. Now today I have to do it again!!! And you wonder why I drink!!!!!! LizzieB 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2011 Wow, what a pain. Sounds like you need to have a 4th of July party for just anyone...homeless people, neighbors you don't even like, weird relatives you never have over....

nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted July 5, 2011 So far today, everything seems to be ok. Got all that food moved to moms freezer yesterday and did a lot of cooking.....again. The daughter just called and is coming down for my B-Day in a little while and wants to take me to lunch!!!!!!!!!! I told her that was fine a couple days ago, but now I have tons of food cooked up that has to be eaten. So I suggested that she just comes down and we'll sit on the front porch and listen to some music and then we can go to lunch on Saturday and she liked that idea. Anyway, after the last couple days, I find myself going to the fridge every 10 minutes to see if it's still working.....lol. I bought a freezer alarm a few years back and never installed it, maybe I better do it this time. An alarm goes off if the temp ever goes higher that 10 or 20 degrees in the freezer. I thought about going out today and buying a new up-right freezer, but figured I'd wait til the new fridge gets here Thursday and see how that works out, cuz between the new 28 cf fridge and the existing fridge (less than a year old), 23 cf, I'll have 51 cf. Then the WD said why buy and up-right, your mom has one that is always empty, just use that if necessary, she only lives a couple blocks away. So hopefully things will get better and work out. Amber 70 Report post Posted July 6, 2011 So sorry Nurk! In the words of Rosanna-rosanna-danna, "It's always something!" Our boat motor just blew a head gasket (whatever that is) just as my husband starts his vacation. Oh well, it could be worse...not life or death. Just a real pain in the a$$, you know...? nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted July 11, 2011 UNFUCKINBELIEVABLE. New fridge was delivered last Thursday and is working fine, but the door with the controls and water and ice dispenser has a tiny dent in it. The delivery guys said they would bring another fridge and swap out the door yesterday, but they were not given my delivery. 2 other guys came at 6pm and swapped the door, but didn't seem to know much and were in a hurry to go home. about 3 hours later the panel had an error code, so I unplugged the fridge for a couple minutes to reset it and that seemed to work. When I got up this morning, it was on error code 15 again, so I called Sears and the techs don't have a clue of error 15 and scheduled a repair man to come out and the earliest day is Saturday the 16th!!!! I unplugged it again and reset it and all was fine for about 3 hours and then the error code came up again. So I called sears again and talked to another techie and he has no idea of code 15, he said all error code have letters, not numbers. So now, instead of waiting til Saturday for a repair man, I told them to bring me a new fridge which will be here Thursday. Can you believe this shit?? Rick 156 Report post Posted July 11, 2011 So sorry for all of your problems, Nurk. Weather in the Chicago area has caused us to lose electricity a few times recently. A few weeks ago, the power was out for two days and we lost all our food...and we had just stoked up for the 4th at Costco! The power is out again today, so far just for about four hours. Grrrrrrrr.........
nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted July 11, 2011 Sorry to hear that Rick, it's a real pain in the ass, not to mention losing all the food and money. So far we haven't had any power outages, I just have bad luck when it comes to appliances, any brand or from any store.
