AngelDream 16 Report post Posted December 11, 2010 That was nice, Ben, thanks! You planning on gettin' one?
nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted December 11, 2010 IF it comes out as a George Harrison signature model, i'll get one. George's was a 1957 duo jet with black finish and a bigsby tailpiece. Gretsch still makes it today, but it was never endorsed by George as a " Harrison" model. George didn't endorse guitars even tho he had many opportunities to do so. he turned down RIC for a signature model of his famous 360/12 years ago, which he owns the 2nd one ever made that was given to him by RIC in NYC on their tour. Somehow, i think that Olivia has made a deal with Gretsch to have a George Harrison model, cuz George loved Gretsch guitars and still had a relationship with Gretsch til the end. He started with the duo jet and then moved on to the double cutaway Country Gentleman, which eventually fell off the top of their van traveling from Liverpool to London for a gig and was completely destroyed. then he bought a single cutawat Country Gent to replace it. even tho George said at one point that he needed to buy something else to get away from the sounds of a Gretsch and Vox amp to expand, he still loved that combo. when i met Fred Gretsch a couple years ago, we talked about his guitars and i asked him "who called you to order the Wilbury guitars", he smiled and said George. i also asked how many were made, and he said "not many, so hang on to yours". So George and Gretsch have a long history together, and that's why i believe that Gretsch and Olivia have come to an agreement to finally have a George Harrison guitar made. i'm sure they are going to be pricey, but i'm in the game if it comes about. nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted December 13, 2010 i think it will happen, or i would not have recieved an email from the harrison site about it. i talked to my brother for an hour yesterday and we are both planning on getting one if it happens. we both plan on starting to call dealers to see if they know anything about it yet and get orders in. i'll also try to call Fred Gretsch and see if i can get 2 directly from him. hopefully everything will work out. nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted December 13, 2010 normandi, i've wanted to have this guitar for many years, but just got serious the past year or so. now i'm so glad i waited this past year. maybe now, i can get this guitar with a George autograph (copy of course) to add to my collection. i do believe this model will sell for at least $5000 and maybe more if it is limited to a few hundred guitars. and it will be hard to get if it is a limited edition, just like the RIC's, cuz the big rock stars will get 1st shot. i'm sure that the famous stars that used Gretsch's already have their orders in, including the Wilbury's, that featured them for their 1st album. so Tom, Bob and Jeff already have one coming! normandi 21 Report post Posted December 13, 2010 I would love to be on one of the Wilbury's Christmas Shopping lists. I can see it now... "Dear Uncle Charley T. Wilbury Jr., I have been a VERY good boy this year and I dream every day of getting a Gretsch George Harrison Signature Duo Jet with black finish and a Bigsby tailpiece. Love... Your nephew, normandi" :035:
